It's not just bluetooth though, now that the security has been hacked it could be downloading a dodgy .sis file, etc.

Exactly, downloading a .sis file would require installation of software. Opening any message wouldnīt risk your phone unless it contains a piece of software embedded just like those sent by your network and are depicted as an envelope with suspension points.
If you keep your bluetooth on someone could send malicious ware. Again, itīs common sense whether you open it and install it or not (it applies the same for messages)

but i dont think nokia is unaware of the security hack...they are going to patch it somehow sooner or later with a new firmware....and we all know as soon as nsu sees a new firmware for our device we all plunge to get that firmware even if we dont have any need for it.....

Yeah but it could be a dodgy .sis file in the guise of some new 'wizz bang' program that makes your N95 make you a hot cup of coffee every day, which you download and then, well it's too late then isn't it!

You need to learn how to be safe.
1) Stay away from warez sites.
Great software is often cracked. Hackers will fool you with "free Nokia Maps Full version!" Be smart about what you install and get your software from trusted sites.
2) Keep your bluetooth set to hidden or off
If you have your bluetooth set to visible, infected phones will bluejack you with malware.
Hackers can even use a bluetooth gun to shoot malware on your phone
(yes bluetooth guns are real, I've seen reports on the news a few years back. They are really just a very directed bluetooth signal with long range. Bluetooth normally broadcasts everywhere in a ~30 ft radius)
3) Pay attention to the stickies at the top of the forums.
If something is bad out there, the mods here will make an effort to let everyone know that way. Right now the threat level is maybe 0 out of 100.
