Orange Vs Nokia Firmware

I've spent the last few days since receiving my lovely new N95, between religiously reading this forum for any tips, installing a number of the fantastic 3rd party apps available.

With the current firmware installed, Orange V13.0.003 I've so far found nothing that requires me to upgrade to a later version or debrand my phone.

It is worth me doing this anyway, as is there a significant improvement in the user experience using the Nokia look and feel, and not the (from what I can tell) more ugly Orange version I'm currently using.

Will debranding my phone and using the Nokia firmware and software give me anything but a change in apperance basicly, and even if thats all I'll get, is it a significantly better experience?

Thanks

The latest firmware version for your phone is v21 and you will have a much better experience with regard to the speed of operation of your handset and the battery life as well. However, you will void your warranty by debranding, so you have to judge for yourself how to proceed.

Read the Tips and FAQs, do a search on "debranding", the topic has been discussed in depth on several occasions.

Thanks for the reply.

I've already read and download all the required software required for debranding my phone for if and when I decide to do it

I was just wondering though (as unlike the 3 thread in this section, I can't find any much information after searching) what the major differences were, other than speed I'd experience after debranding from Orange.

You would be able to use things like IP telephony.

And it's generally cleaner to navigate, in my opinion. But then that would depend on what you're used to. I can't get round my mate's N95 on Orange.

The difference between the horrible Orange butchered F/W and the normal Nokia one is light and day.

When I debranded, and updated mine, it was like buying a new phone.

You just have to judge the risks associated with the warranty, and the chances of you bricking the phone in the update process.

a friend has recently gone to that new v13 on Orange and getting atrocious battery life - anyone found this ???

I've told him to debrand and go to v21 as battery life is super but he's not keen and wants to stick with Orange

The only way it could be solved was to de-brand and go up to ver21, Orange advised this too!

It's probably been covered in other threads but this is just a known problem with that v13 on Orange
