NEWS - Nokia Software Updater loses Vista Support

I don't beleive this !

Eventually got round to trying the upgrade 21.0 today, earlier I was getting a failure to connect in NSU, I assumed there was an issue at their end (I didn't know about this down time) so tried it later and got connected and it offerred me the upgrade to 21.

I ran it and all seemed to be going ok, downloaded the upgrade files then got an error box saying "Nokia Service Layer Host Process has stopped working", I closed that message box and the update window still seemed to be working but it's been sitting at 15 minutes to go for a long time now.

I'm on Vista too !! (although I have compatibility mode for NSU set to XP)

ah, I'm with it now! this is the same Vista compatibility issue then, so the Nokia error appears then seemed to shut the phone off, so I've now switched back on and the phone's ok.

Going to have to try with XP.

if you want my opinion

only use nsu with xp

as vista is still unstable!

Hi,

I don't know if anyone is aware of this but if you have vista, you can get the software updater working by going to your c drive then program files>>Nokia>>Nokia Software Updater, then right click on the nsu_ui_clint.exe file and click properties then go to the compatibility tab, tick the run this program in compatibility mode for check box, select Windows XP and click apply.

I dont have it installed yet. Thats the problem. I uninstalled everything then got the latest pc suite. Then tried nsu again but i still get that stupid 1720 error. I tried running the installer package in compatibility mode too!

Any idea whats up with that?

Nokia Software Updater has been having maintenance this weekend, so that may be why some of you are having issues.

With regard to the Vista removal, that XP compatability workaround does work, you can just apply it to the shortcut on your desktop or whatever, and will allow NSU to run on Vista.

Whether you update or not using it is up to you. I'd advise you not to risk it, personally.

for me the NSU did run with the compatibility mode set but got an error during the update and never completed.

I then tried an XP machine and worked first time.
