Viewranger update

Anyone else get the viewranger newsletter?

Along with support for more GPS enabled phones (although they already supported symbian ones - N95, 6110, E90), they have facebook integration.

A software update, which Im going to look at in a mo to see if offers anything new that I want.

Maps for Finland, with 1.20000 coming soon.

They say they are in talks with other companies to get mapping data for other countries.

I really need to update my dataplan (or at least get one to stop being raped by data charges) to make full use of viewranger - i.e. buddy tracking etc.

Just htought Id post here, since I feel that good customer service should be trumped as much as bad.

I contacted VR about a new licence code as I have swapped phones, and a few other questions.

And I got a reply back under an hour later, at 11.55pm on a Saturday night.

Always had good service from them before, but thats insane.

Definatly a company of note. And they keep the software updated too. Version 2.5 will be out soon.

I'll second that, excellent customer service.

I realised there was an update the other day while messing with the buddy beacon feature.

My dad has also had good experiences with them, first he messed up the map ordering which they sorted for him (and included some extra bits for free). He recently ordered some more custom maps and they emailed them back to him within an hour.

Interesting. I've just discovered GeoCaching. Wondering if this would be good for that.

I suspect it would be almost ideal.

Have a look at the features. ViewRanger : Off-road Topographic Map Navigation, Sports GPS, Buddy Beacon Tracking and Location-Based Content

Theres also loads not listed on the website. They have a 16 day trial version, although the maps probably wont be near you.

The trial maps are pretty small but for £20 you can get a pretty huge area of custom mapping. The whole of every national park is also a bargain.

If you are the kind of person that buys the OS map of wherever you are going on holiday then you'll love viewranger.
