New N95 cannot stop freezing/crashing
Phone arrived today at about 10:30 am and in that time it must have stopped operating about ten times. The only way I've found to switch it off after a crash is to take the battery out however if I put the battery back in soon after, it doesn't start up properly. If I leave it for a few minutes, it starts up normally and operates until the next crash/freeze comes along soon after.
I'm not sure if I've ever purchased a piece of equipment which is quite as unreliable as this
Is this common or have I been unlucky?
Firmware is v21.0.016 installed on 14th Feb 2008 (apparently)

Welcome to the forums.!
Did you buy this N95 new?
Its running the latest firmware for the N95-1, which should not do as its doing with yours. I would recommend you to reinstall its current firmware using NSU, and see if that cures its problems.
Before you do this however, do you have a memory card inserted, and if so, what size, and brand is it.?
Have you tried removing the card (Should you have one fitted), and then switch the phone on, see if that makes any difference.
What have you go installed on the phone? Any third party apps, games etc.?

Wanted - Faulty N95 handsets. PM me if you have one you wish to part with.

Bought it new from a well-known internet store.
Reinstalling the firmware might be a problem because I have a Mac.
Would a Nokia dealer/store in London reinstall the firmware?
I haven't put an SD card in yet. I'm waiting for one I ordered.
I've not installed any applications.
I've managed to connect it up to the wifi router, synchronised it
with the Mac via Bluetooth and got a GPS fix (with help from wifi)
but the longest period of operation I've had out of the phone is a couple of hours.
It is the best phone I've ever used and the worst all in one

Being as you don't have anything on there, and nothing to lose, try a hard reset.

What internet store did you buy it from?

ive come to the conclusion that its mostly an overheating issue. theres been a few threads about this problem. next time it happens take the battery out and see if the metal panel is warm. no firmware upgrade, memory card swap, reset, or reboot is going to remedy the problem. i had to stop using my windshield mount cause the phone would get warm in the sunlight and lock up.

I'm not sure about overheating in mine but I do find it odd that if I replace the battery (after removing the battery due to freezing that is) too soon, the unit fails even sooner; It's almost as if it needs time to get over something.
Kept it on throughout the night and it didn't crash but within five minutes of operation, guess what
Just had another go and it crashed again.
My first port of call should be the retailer but I'm tempted to contact Nokia.
Are their repair centres "authorised"?
I have one or two that I could choose from here in London and I'm thinking
it might be an idea to have the thing checked out before returning because I'm sure it is fatally faulty, as it were!

I'd go to the nearest one to that is stated at the below link.
Nokia UK - Nokia's mobile phone contact care centre

I asked the chap/boy racer where it said that on the receipt and he didn't bother looking for it. In fact he asked his colleague what "Play.com" was. He was told it's like Amazon.
Help was not forthcoming.
I know Play should be my first port of call but like every other
retailer, they are merely a box shifter and I was given the impression (via Nokia's site) that I could deal with Nokia slightly more directly.
I'll get in contact with Nokia and relate my story.........
