Best Music File Format?
I was having trouble with some of the songs on my phone crackling a lot (most of whcih were in the M4A format), all the recent songs I've added I covnerted to AAC and they worked well so I decided to send the M4A songs from my phone into my collection, converted them to AAC and then put them back on my phone however the majority of the songs have come out rubbish!! Many of these songs were recorded from CD as well so they'r enot just dodgy recordings. So I was wondering what people generally find to be the best file format and on what setting (i.e. medium, high, ultra-high)?
I haven't installed the N-Series PC Suite so I don't know if there's a converter on that which is more appropriate for the N95? Either way I'm in a pickle and have just ruined some of my favourite songs and it took so long to convert and switch them about as well! So any quick help would be much appreciated!!

120kbps for an MP3 Id say is the best setting, forgotten the actual unit though for mp3 quality, its something like that

Garbage in garbage out mate. If you converted a file that already sounded pap, it will definately sound worse after converting. You can't polish a turd.
Go back to the source (CD?) and convert that into the desired end format. Be that MP3, M4A or AAC. There's some debate as to which will save you space and still provide quality sounds. I prefer MP3 - it's just easy.
That all said, I predict that this thread will now turn into a war about what sounds best. How MP3's all sound rubbish and thant the N95 can't be compared to a proper media player blah blah blah.
My advice (same as kylepsp) is use MP3 ar 128kbps or above. But to be honest, I personally don't go above 170kbps and even jacked up to proper volume in my car or house, they sound absolutely fine. More than acceptable for a portable music source.
At the end of the day, if you want top quality sounds, get yourself a B&O setup on turntables and play vinyl. LOL

Probably don't want to shout about that mate. You know that getting music via peer2peer sites is normally illegal? Unless you are specifically downloading the open-license stuff?
Let me explain, I don't want this to sound like I'm attacking you mate...I have a £1,000 firewall at work and the level of reporting I get about what my users are doing on the web is unbelievable. If I can get this much reporting for £1,000, imagine what your ISP can see for your web usage.
One day, the courts will ask the ISP's to hand over these records and then the brown smelly stuff will hit the whirly thing.
Try Napster, it's £9.99 a month and you can legally download whatever you like, as much as you like.
The catch? It's a subscription, so when you unsubscribe, you loose the music. But at the cost of just over 1CD a month, I can't see me ever unsubscribing.

Sorry but this is not relevant to what the guy asking......everyone is responsible for his own act and it is not down to an individual to dish out a list of do and dont unless it is to do with N95.... hope you take that the friendly way.

m4a and aac tend to use less space but the the you play them on your phone they don't sound as good because they have been compressed.... if it's good sound your after then mp3 is your boy!! but if space is a issue use aac or m4a

Indeed. Fair point, I can't argue with anyone steering a thread back onto topic. You'll note that I have posted a helpful comment previously, silimar to your advice as it happens, and I am waiting for the OP to come back with some results.
But I still think what I said was valuable advice as a passing comment..? Perhaps a PM would have been more appropriate though. Consider my wrists slapped. ;)

I use MP3 256kpbs. Overkill, yes. But I use that as a standard for everything (Phone, iPod, PC, and home media) so it sounds great on all fronts.
