Does it work with PC Suite/any other Nokia apps?? Also if it's the first time you're using that usb port, give it 5 minutes or so to find all the device drivers etc...

No it doesn't work with PC suite ..

and after installing 2 or 3 of the drivers, it stops and says that an error occured while installing a driver and the device may not work properly ..

hrmmm... tried a different usb port at all?? and tried rebooting your pc and turning your off and on... also make sure there's no open Add New Hardware Wizards, and double check to make sure there's no other unrecognized hardware in Device Manager before installing your phone

I had the same problem, here's how I fixed it. Open up PC Suite and click the "Manage Connection" and make sure USB is selected.

If it's not being picked up in Nokia Software Updater and it's recognising the phone but failing when installing the drivers it's not likely to be the connectivity setting in PC Suite...

I agree that it sounds odd, but I was experiencing the same issue that the OP describes and once I changed that setting it went away.

if all this doesn't work try yet another USB port
there are 2 ports on your motherboard which split to (usually) a front and back USB
if you tried the front, now try the back
