Ok....reading that I surmise that if you're in the states on at&t you pay to RECIEVE a sms? WTF?

I believe here in Finland, we have the cheapest mobile phone calls, and texts in the world. Or Europe at least.

relative to data, SMS is way more lucrative, thats why we should all just send emails, but right now most people can't recieve emails on their phones yet.

I pay $0.04 to send sms/mms and nothing to receive
20 cent to receive a sms? Ludicrous! Thats what I pay for 1 mb of data (if I didn't had unlimited data plan) It's been 5-6 years since the price was so high here and that was for sending.

if i use any messenger (IM+, agile messenger, etc.) sending and receiving counts as a sms so unlimited is the way to go.

yeah I've even got the unlimited family plan as I have 2 phones so both get unlimited messages sms,mms and all that jazz for $30 a month

yeah but for all the lines on the plan
so if there's 2 or more lines everyone gets unlimited for that 30 bux
