1/4 mile timer...

So who's going to be the first code a 1/4mile timer? Surely the gps and accelerometer make the N95 to perfect tool for this.

i was wondering that myself. The problem with the accelerometer is that it needs to be fastened to the car properly.

Ive already got an accelerometer powered 1/4 mile and 0-60 mph timer unit (a dedicated piece of hardware) and it relies on being firmly attached with no vibration etc, to get an accurate reading

Yeah, but i was thinking normal (1/4mile) accelerometers don't have gps... ;)

You'll get a start point with the gps, the sensitivity of the accelerometer could kick off the timing when you hit the gas and the gps could measure a 1/4mile from its start point.

Might not be as accurate as dedicated 1/4mile timers, but i think it'd be pretty close.

Plus i'm sure some clever chap could also code it up with a horsepower calc built in etc if you keyed in basic figures like car weight etc.

I'm no expert, but i'd regard that as a true killer app! Something the phone can offer that no other phone can do!

Some good reading on the wiki (Accelerometer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Some folk that would be most interested in our toy (0-60 time, 1/4 mile and such -meter on your carPC - MP3Car.com)
