Erm hang on a second, Samir did not pioneer this idea. It was first demonstrated by Nokia I believe, in a press conference if I recall. I'm guessing it was about that time the two developers started developing their respective applications.
All Samir gave us was a teaser video. Lest not forget it Ren Tong that got FlipSilent out first.
Unless you can prove something underhand has gone on Giz, I can't agree with anything you're saying.
Its also important to remember that Tong now has what he'll feel an obligation to meet the requirements of those who donated to him. If enough requests were made to include the slider end call function then he's doing no wrong in my book.
We'll have to agree to disagree I think. But as I said earlier and evidently Baseballfanz agrees, competition, for the end user, is a ed good thing.

Can't think of a swear word ending in "ed" in that context..... That'll keep me up all night!

Comedy is just about saying stupid things cleverly, or is it clever things stupidly... Anyway, it's not rocket surgery.

Er, from what I've read elsewhere Flipsilent was in development before any release of information about ShutUp, which would make this a parallel development (only the developer here maybe has a little less on his hands than Samir and worked his up to a reasonable working order first).

ShutUp was announced and 'documented' by Samir almost two months ago now as an upcoming developement, way before anyone else had shown any intention of implementing the idea. At the end of the day, Samir was the first in planning such an application, but had his situation (Regarding his busy schedules at the time) exploited by someone else who started developing before he did. Kudos to Tong for implementing the alarm functionality, infact this is the one reason I will not put this all down to selfishness, but you can clearly see where the rest of this application has been sourced from. You may well be correct about his (Now felt) obligation to implement the features that ShupUp has now included, but this is an obligation that would not have even arised, were he not involved with this in the first place. For such a small (And relevantly easy to develop) application, this seems to me that Tong simply saw how popular ShutUp would be, and jumped at the chance to get something out there.
Regardless of what the 'end users' want, it is only the developers who decide when their applications will be released. For this reason alone, it shows how much Tong has simply taken someone elses idea for his own publicity. Regarding the developers and the developers alone, this is clearly an attempt to steal the lime light, and just does not sit right in my books. The consumers are nothing to do with it, and I have already stated that I will even (And already have been) using FlipSilent for my own uses, but this just comes down to plain courtesy between the two developers and is not something that is often lacked.
I would have liked to have seen Tong attempting to implement something that had not been mentioned before (Not mentioning the alarm functionality due to this being a very small addition to the original idea), but he is clearly tracing Samirs steps even up until he has released his own version of this application. Obligated or not, I feel this could have been dealt with by Tong in a much higher manner instead of rushing out immediately with an update to keep up with Samir. I hope now you'll understand where I'm coming from

No, not really.
As I said, we'll have to agree to disagree. You can't prove who started development on their respective applications first, and neither can I.
Your opinion, really, has no factual backing.

Facts? Ok, this is as far as I have come to understand it..
Ren Tong states that he found the idea from this video. With a little help from google translator, you can clearly see that the S60 team only published that video just over a month ago. Even if Ren Tong got the idea from somewhere else, I very much doubt that he was totally oblivious of Samir's plans, as this was pretty much the time in which ShutUp was peaking everyones interests (About a month or so after Samir first mentioned ShutUp)
Sure, I cannot say for an absolute definite that I am correct, but you have to admit that it doesn't look 100% convincing. Maybe I'm just being cynical, but judging from the releases that we have seen from Tong, (Regarding the timing and features included), I have based this opinion and can't see myself changing it unless there is more light to shed upon the matter
