Proporta USB Mobile Device charger

Review of Proporta Travel Survival Kit... the Proporta portable USB charger with universal power options.

The Proporta USB charger is a fairly popular item on these boards; many people have commented favorably. I'm taking this opportunity to write a full review, so as to offer readers more information on the product.

Firstly, the device itself. The proporta battery charger is a slim white device, made of a durable plastic. It is the same height as the n95, slightly wider, and somewhat thinner, measuring 3.9 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches and it weighs 120g or 4.2 oz

On one end is a silver plastic swivel tether (I'm not sure why they included this, I don't think you will see people with a proporta charger hanging around their neck!), the other (top side) houses the power input and output. Beyond that, there is a lighted microswitch on one side (green for fully powered or in charge-out mode, red for charge-in mode). Pretty simple, really.

While the Proporta USB charger is being charged, it will glow red. Once fully charged, it changes to green.
When charging other devices, it will glow green. Simply connect the device, and press the button. The Proporta USB charger will start to flash red when it runs low on power and needs to be recharged.

I concur with the other fans of the proporta USB charger - this is one handy little device.

Especially for n95 users... we all know how this amazing technological wonder from Nokia drinks power! When using gps or wireless, the n95 can drain itself dry in a couple of hours.

Solution... the Proporta USB charger.

Capable of recharging the n95 3.6 times off a full charge, the Proporta USB charger is easy to slip into your pocket, tough enough to take the abuse, and simple enough for anyone to use... result... no more worries!

Now I carry it around in my pocket along with the retractable power cord that comes with it, and I can charge up my n95 anytime, anywhere. At home, I can plug the Proporta USB charger into the supplied Proporta wall charger (or any usb port on my computer) and a couple of hours later, I'm ready to go again... for another couple of days using the n95 all day, without worrying about the battery!

It's a small revolution, and as a product the Proporta USB charger is a small stroke of genius.

The travel survival kit comes with the Proporta USB charger, a retractable charge cable with tips to fit Nokia and Sony-Ericsson phones, as well as the Ipod. Additionally, there is a nifty universal wall charger with a variety of removeable prongs for different voltages and different countries, which has a USB connection on the back; and a car charger, also with a USB connection. The final cable is a standard USB to USB mini cable, which can connect either the call or wall charger to the Proporta USB charger, or directly charge the Proporta USB charger off of any computer USB port or any USB hub.

The Proporta USB charger arrives in the box with a 50-75% charge, so charging is quick and easy. With only one button to press, its simple and easy to use. Ports are clearly marked OUT and IN... it's pretty much idiotproof.

How could it be better?
Well, a rectracteable USB to USB mini cable would be nice. These are available aftermarket if you want one, of course...

As a device that is bound to get thrown around, stuffed into things, and dropped into crevices, I would like to see some sort of cover for the USB and mini USB ports. Either a simple plastic slider or a rubber plug would work well.

The ultimate test of the Proporta USB charger... is the simple fact that I take it everywhere. And so will you.

The Proporta Mobile Survival Kit includes the USB Mobile Device Charger (USB Rechargeable Battery). This product charges from any standard USB port (so it works with ALL Proporta power/charging products in your car, home or office) and stores an impressive 3400 mAh of power for when you need it.

Nice review, Geoffbaker!

The most important accessory for your N95, IMHO! (Not to mention every other electronic device you own too!)

I agree... I'm a huge fan of the Proporta charger. I use it for about ten different items. The thing charges everything.

For the record, you can get a mini-usb tip for the retractable cable- I just got one- very handy. Beats carrying around two retractable cables.

Where can you get this, except proporta? Any national chains carry this?

Don't believe so... I'd imagine they're the only ones that use the interchangeable tips that would work with it.

I got one too, but get this though; The USB tip charges my Hollux fine. Flip it round and I can use it to charges the proporta itself. But it won't charge my S9's! Wierd...

The white lead I got with the proporta originally charges my S9's fine!!!!?? Anyone else got a similar tale?

Top and bottom separating?

I just got mine, and I noticed that the top and bottom halves of the device have separated about 1/16" along one side. I can press them back together, but after a few minutes, they separate again -- as if the glue didn't quite dry. Anyone else seeing this?
