Taking pics silently... anybody know how?

as a somewhat serious amateur photographer i take my DSLR most places, but now i'm just going to use my N95 8gb for fun things.

but, does anyone know if you can stop the fake shutter release noise on every picture? its louder than any real camera i've ever used.

i mean how am i supposed to take a sly picture of someone with this huge CAAACHINNNNNG every time.

please help.

Thats the idea, since pervs were using camera phones to take pictures up ladies skirts and such, a law was passed that they must make sounds.

hahaha. are you kidding? a perfect example was the fact i wanted to take a picture of someone in my office in a rather embarrassing situation constructing a table without them knowing about it. but it gave it away.

i've realised by switching it to silent this does work but its quite inconvenient to always have to switch back and forth.

is there no way to retain all the silent setting but actually have a ring perhaps?

It is really annoying, because I often take pictures of family members/friends doing something stupid.

I thought the warning tones thing didnt work after a certain firmware?

that depends on your product code because some countries have passed laws that the camera has to have a shutter sound in order to be sold in that country.

Mine can do it :D

BUT

I've hacked the phone, and installed a ROMPatcher script that allows it to be off.
