Just a idea i had for the N95 8GB lens problem
hey pple,
well i own a N95 one since august and have had no problems but since the 8GB came out i just feel lke getting it but i dont have the money.id rather just get a 8GB memory card but black looks so sexy!!!!
anyway ontopic i was thinking that since people are complaining that the N95 8GB has no lens cover and the lens can be easily scrathed i kinda had this idea. Why dont you order a screen protector and then cut it the same size as the lens and then stick it on the lens?that should prevent the scratches?
what do you think?and guys if its a stupid idea please do understand im not even 17 yet so dont expect big ideas from me its just a thought?what do you people think?

The 8GB and the N95-3 do include a plastic over the entire camera area, and while I suppose it might shield it some from scratches, it makes taking pictures horrible. Before I got my case (that protects the camera) I had to remove it each time before taking the pic, otherwise I would end up with a square fuzz border around my pics.
I'm thinking a protector might be better since it might stick on firmer? Not sure, nice idea to try anyhow.

Just another layer of something for the optics to pass through- and doesn't address the problem of fingerprints and smudges.

No, the WOM crew scours the internet day and night. That's them linking- not some bot. :)
It's important to note that WOM World is not Nokia, rather a Nokia sponsored group- so it's not as though they could officially comment on something like this, if that's what you were suggesting, Leong. At any rate, Nokia is just as interested in negative feedback on issues like the lack of decent lens protection as they are with praise- even more so really.
That being said... I still think a soft transparent plastic disk over more plastic that is still exposed to whatever before light gets to the actual camera lens is rubbish. I believe that the vast majority of Nokia consumers would appreciate decent measures taken to protect the lens of a 5mpix device with such a price tag.
Have a look a this image of my N95-3. The 'protective coating' is nearly worn off all together. Now- I do take good care of my N95. There's not a nick or anything anywhere else on the phone. It lives in one pocket, with nothing else. Ever. No idea if I've gotten a bum coating or something- but it's trashed. I don't think this is a reasonable measure to protect the optics.
