Thumbs down streaming arghhhh - fed up with random outages on hsdpa

Hi folks,
I have a UK (t-mobile) N95 on the web n walk plus tariff (3gig limit) and you can use it on your laptop.

First off I notice an issue with speed, connection speed for a start. The laptop reports 420kbps though I know I can up this to 900 odd kbps by adjusting the settings. However the USB Orange 3G connector that the guys at work use is regularly giving 7.2MBPS speed ? why is the N95's so slow?
Secondly ('NOT' on wifi by the way) but when my N95 is attached to my laptop and I am connected using pc suite to my 3G/HSDPA connection, my n95 behaves oddly.
I 'can' play world of warcraft fine for hours with no issues,I can browse for hours on various sites and download with no issues, however if i try and stream any video my connection drops after a few seconds/ sometimes a few minutes, but will always at some point halt. The only way to sort this is to disconnect via the pc suite software and reconnect, this then reconnects straight away once more fine, and will allow hours of browsing or WOW.If I try and stream again however it will once again last a few seconds or so.
this is the same on most sites that stream you tube google video myspace video etc.
I open cmd and do a 'ping BBC - Homepage -t'
to keep an eye on the connection and it always drops when trying to stream.
with t-mobile I seem to be restricted also to firmware V12 which isnt fun also.

Have you guys seen this before at all?

It is more likely going to be your firmware version thats the problem!

Are you sure the Orange connection at work is a 3g connection? That speed seems very high.

I am on the same tariff as you and have just tested my speed at www.dslreports.com/mspeed from the phone and this was my result for a 1mb file:

I then tried connecting to the PC through PC suite and ran a speedtest at speedtest.bbmax.co.uk and I got the following result:

Download Speed: 1068 kbps (133.5 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 349 kbps (43.6 KB/sec )

So, it seems this is the limit for us. Out of interest, have you contacted TMob to see what speed you should expect to achieve through HSDPA?

7.2 Mbps connection speed so says windows XP, on a test however i am unsure of actual performance.
My friend also has a USB dongle for the 3G network and yet again 7.2Mbps connection speed detected.
Very odd

the MOST annoying thing though is the constant loss of signal whilst streaming even a very small video. not a disconnect just a 'still connected' but no communication.
I think that my trial of mobile based broadband has not been very successful
grah

Unhappy

ANyone have any info on this at all - are T-mobile blocking ports that allow streaming perhaps UDP I dont know. This also seems to be spilling over to some downloads now also get 16% through one for example and it sits there on 16% for hours and lo and behold try and open a site and its lost connection.
I was told that web n walk plus was a plan that allowed streaming etc but it seems to not be the case.
Half my net time is spent watching crap on you tube so im not having much fun at the moment.
This is the sole reason I am currently planning on dumping t-mobile in a couple of months as a failed experiment.
I am using the max firmware that t-mobile allow and still no joy.

Yeah Windows XP tells me that my wifi connection is 54 Mbps when I know it can't touch half of that in sustained transfer. Windows is telling you the capability of the connection, not the actual serviceable rates that you will see.

progression

Now I am getting progression
downloads are now also hit by this issue.
In my frustration i have now downloaded flash get (which i am not particularly fond of - though in this situation it assists very well).

test example - download anything - in this case second life client file - roughly 21MB or so

start download and we get 112kbps download rate (very reasonable) for 40 seconds or so before it stops, the modem sits there sending signals out but receiving nothing.
disconnect - reconnect and another 20 seconds or so of downloading and then the same - repeat this 30 times or so and we have the full client downloaded.
the file is irellevant download anything and its the same , start to stream anything and its the same - you tube, google video , iplayer, myspace video.
any of them start to stream and then cut out leaving the modem connected but just sending a signal and receiving nothing.

however - browse the internet for hours without issue !
I have called T-Mobile and they say its not my account and must be the signal - however i have very strong good HSDPA signal here and on rare occasions get 4-5 mins of good high speed download before it once again stops - and after a quick reconnect it works again.
I dont want to have to reconnect my modem 30 times for every 20 mb file i download though.

oh yes my results from the speed test i just did

however if i started to download anything you care to name both would be 0kbps within 60 seconds
