problem configuring symSMB v2.0

i've spent most of the day trying to configure my n95 to use symSMB without any joy.
I've used the search function on this site to see if a similar post exists.
so here goes, this is how far i've got!

under settings in symsmb
accounts
domain \\dove1\ (DOVE1 is 'full computer name)
name admin (the name i log into my pc with)
pasword abc (the password i use to log into my pc)

connections
name \\myphone\data
access point belkin54g (the name of my wireless router)
auto connect yes
ip address 192.168.2.27 (gets inserted when i start the connection)

shared folders
shared folder c:\data
name data
permissions press ok to edit...

network drives
name carl
drive g:\
access point belkin54g
account \\dove1\\admin
host 192.168.2.3 (the ip address i get from control panel wireless connection status)
share \\dove1\share2 (a share folder on my pc)

when i try and map a network drive on my pc i enter \\myphone\data and after about 10 seconds it times out with network path could not be found

any ideas people??

thanks

carl

There are lots of potential issues, including making sure you have turned off simple file sharing...

But firstly... make sure you arent running a/v on either end (fsecure on my phone shuts off symSMB completely, I have to disable it).

Then reboot the phone, start symSMB, make sure the connection has been started, and try again.

well i'm not to sure how to turn off file sharing!!
I tried the reboot and it did the same, it connects to the web real fast tho so it must be finger trouble somewhere.
if i try and connect the phone to the pc it times out and vici verci

Hope it helps. :)

hey i'm almost there!
i did exactly what you said in part 1 but when i try and map the network drive on the pc a dialogue box apears asking for username and password. I enter the user name i put in the phone + the same password and the dialogue box just reappears.

when i completed part 2 i could instantly see the drive on my PC (plus the files) so they are talking to each other!!

many thanks for helping out ;-)

carl

Hmm... I just cancelled mine and remapped the drive, I didn't get the dialogue box and I can't remember what parameters I entered the first time I did it.

Have you tried entering the PC Username and Password?

Good! Glad to hear you sorted it... :)

It's a very useful app, I was able to buy a cheap (<4GBP) charge stand without USB connection, as it's not needed with SymSMB.

Great walk through Sp00k mate. Got as far as setting up a drive (example (fred\data1) on my computer. Each time i try, my computer shows a failed message. I select a drive not used, for example, z: Then type in Fred\data1 and it fails. Do I have to create a folder by the name of Fred on my PC?

Unhappy

just an update. I'm still banging my head up against a brick wall here lol

Ok, this is where I am at the moment, and this is my set up.

Done everything as per walk through, in Sp00ks thread above But when trying to add a drive to my PC, I can't get it to accept the names ive set my phone up with . (Fred\data1).

My set up that Im using maybe to blame here, so I will explain my setup.

Im using a wireless connection with my laptop already. There is another computer in another room, which has its modem connected via cable to the linksys router.

My question is. Being as my N95 has WiFi, and my laptop has WiFi, why am i having to connect to my wireless router, to access my laptop files.?

I have a horrible feeling I have been a complete muppet here, and trying to do something completely wrong.

Any help, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Micky
