help needed with wep
Please excuse my ignorance but I am very new to pc and especially this phone..I have wireless network and when I locate it on phone and enter password it says unable to connect and to check wep..which I have....Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong..If I go into my wireless connection it asks if I want to add a device to my network...should I do this..does network need authority for phone to work....If this is the case it then tells me to download settings to flashdrive and then to device...which obviously phone cannot take flashdrive ..so would I download settings direct to phone...sorry if this sounds confusing.... but that is exactly how I feel...confused.....If I have it all wrong can someone please tell me ..how do I coonect to my wireless network..many thanks. to you all....I can see I am going to be a regular here...

Hi Russell, I use a wireless router in my home and set WEP on my wireless network for security. When I connect my N958GB to my home network my router will prompt for WEP code and I just enter that on my phone and it connects. I am not sure what type of networking you have set up but it sounds like it is Windows controlled? Can you provide my info about your network set up and with that may be I can help you with your problem?
Cheers, Michael

if you have mac address filter enabled then you need to add the phones mac address to the router. or a quick fix sometimes work is to disable wep, get the phone to log on, then enable wep. weird but it worked for me.

Is your password case sensitive? Does it have both, numbers, and letters too? If so, are you going into number mode on your phones keypad, ot pressing the letters keys several times to get the number.? Someone I know had a similar issue where it would only accept numbers from the number menu.

An ADSL 2+ router should support WPA.
WEP is very weak security, it has been described as being like locking your front door, leaving the keys under the mat and then pinning a large note to the door saying the keys are under the mat.
The N95 seems to have much less trouble with WPA.
