I think part of the reason the N95-2 has a better slider is because the front housing completely covers and mates with the back cover leaving no gaps like the N95-1

Just checked our stock and it appears that our slide assemblies are the new version as pictured in the original post.

confused??

quote:
hey Dayene if u talking about gettin the new rails for ur 8gb model then i should tell u that 8 gb already has the new rails....they dont make much of a diffrence as u might have seen the slider came loose after some time....so today i just opened up my 8gb and used the tape fix method to fix the slider...it is working fab now....u might wanna try it....it is exactly same as n95-1

Is this correct, i have the n95 8gb. After reading the posts on the first couple of pages i thought great ill take it to the service center and get the rails changed as it does rattle slightly and there is movement, which is very annoying for what is supposed to be a top phone. Can anybody shed some light on this please as i dont want to travel to the service center to be told that it already has the updated slider?

The N95-2 does have the new rails anyway but you may find they need slightly tightening if they have been knocked about in transit etc

If there are a few members still obsessed with these new rails then let me know as I have a few of the new rails taken off damaged slide assembly units that you can have

Hi,

Just thought i would let you know that i have changed 2 slide assemblies on two phones, with these "new ones". One phone was rock solid, whilst the other was loose and moves from side to side. It looks like the overall tolerance of each part is not tight enough, hence some good and some not so good.

update...

The slider assembly is made up of two parts - the base which has the media keys and the top screen part. On the slider that had side to side movement, the base part of the slider was oversized! I noticed that after i put the phone back together, there was quite a large gap shwing down the sides. I took the slider apart and used the base from my old slider. Once it was all back together i had no sideways movement and no gaps. It therefore appears to be luck of the draw whether you get a good or a bad one, and nokia need to sort their manufacturing process out and tighten up on their tolerences.

If you can get hold of the rails, you probably have a better chance of getting a good slider.
