Nokia N95

My N95-3 was purchased unlocked, and my current version is 11.2.009 . it was just upgraded from version 10 something, and according to the Nokia updater is at the current version. There are lots of sites indicating versions 12 to 20, and am wondering if my phone can be upgraded to those versions or if they are specific to Europe and Asia. My phone is on rogers here in in Canada.

I have the same phone on the same network as you.

Like you, I keep seeing references to firmware versions that are later then what I have. And these references seem to indicate that it is an important upgrade.

So it seems that the N95-3 has fallen behind the other models. The explanation that I have seen is that AT&T is considering pickup up the 95-3. I guess the implication is that AT&T would want some restrictions placed on the phone (eg. kill VoIP) and this would be more difficult for them to enforce if there was a full featured and up-to-date firmware for the phone floating around on the net.

If this is true, then I would be pissed because I very much want to use this phone's VoIP feature, AND I want to have an up-to-date firmware.

Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

the lack of firmware support for the n95-3 is unrelated to at&t's desire to cripple it when they get it. All operators cripple firmware, like on the 8ger which does get firmware updates. That said update your firmware.

I also have the N95-3, received in January, and thought about updating firmware. I then tried to do that, following helpful tips that have been provided on this site, and when the update was complete I received the message that I had the lastest update and asked if I wanted to replace it. I decided not to replace it if I already had it. My thought was that I may lose something even though I did back up the phone on PC Suite. So my understanding is that the US version, N95-3, has the update version. Maybe what we are seeing about updating on this site is for other countries, not Canada or US. That is just my thought but if anyone else has a better understanding or explanation, please help b/c I am still and will problably always be a newbie with this great phone.
