your network has to approve the new firmware and then Nokia releases a version of the new firmware with your networks shortcuts etc on it .
The new network firmware will then be distributed to NSCs and also for use on NSU.
At the moment NSU does not appear to have been updated much at all but if your product code is one on the list I posted then your local NSC should have the firmware already so you would not need to wait until NSU uploads it

lame. seems my product code isn't on the list! bloody nokia. why don't they just make it available to all handsets at the same time?!

anyways, thankyou yet again for your help its greatly appreciated!
i guess i'll just have to join everyone in playing the waiting game!

also, i'm on Vodfone, and i have yet had to chance to even upgrade to v20 using the NSU.. would i be correct in thinking i'm going to be waiting a long, LONG time for v21?

Change the product code, debrand, upgrade, and get A VoIP profile for cheaper/free calls. Your phone will work better, you will be paying less to Vodafone and as soon as any upgrades for the firmware arrive you can have them. It's easy enough to do (it must be - I did it.) and IMHO the advantages far outweigh the small possibility of voiding your warranty.

I would have agreed a few weeks ago but now the "possibility" is an almost certainty :(

Sorry mate ,we have no idea when the NSU update will become available as quite often we don't even know of a new firmware until a customer comes in with a failed update (with a version that we don't even have at NSC level) and we cannot flash it because that version is not made available to us .
To be honest it's good to see that this version has been made available to NSC before NSU for a change as it will make it a lot easier to fix problems when customers brick their handsets

You can always use Phoenix + the rapidshare links to the firmware that float around the net. And if you think it's any more riskfull, I'd say it's not, there's even an option to reflash a bricked phone in Phoneix. So wait or do it with phoneix, it doesn't matter acctually.
