Unbranding Without a SIM

I sat down to unbrand my N95 after alot of reading on these forums. As I am in Holland and have a three UK contract I thought might as well as I never use the SIM abroad.
Turns out I can't update the nokia software withour a SIM card in the phone. My SIM is in the UK as someone else is making use of my freen minutes while I am abroad. I didnt read anyone where that a SIM was needed in the phone. As its three locked i cant put my dutch sim in there either. What a bummer...

NSU instructions state that the profile must be set to 'General', I don't think that you can do that without a SIM... but I've never tried it. :)

Nope, there is no three here in Holland. i gotta wait until I am back in the UK for a weekend to put a SIM in and try it. Aye good suggestion SexyBack (Nice pic btw) if I can find someone here with a three SIM, i could probably do it.
Spook: when its on general and there is no SIM the message insert SIM comes up straight away and the connection to PC Suite isn't made.

Cant you set it to offline mode, switch phone off. Insert your dutch sim, phone on, stay in offline mode, wait for it to boot. Connect to PC Suite, change to general profile, and then run NSS and NSU?

Oh hang on, after re-reading that, I think you mean 'Unlock', and not 'Debrand', in which case no you will need to wait until you get back to the UK. Unless you can find on unlocking shop in the Netherlands with N95 capabilites....

Nope. When you go to general it says invalid SIM.
I do mean Debranding, not Unlocking.
I use the phone without a SIM in it. As we have WIFI at home, and most of the locals bars here have free wireless internet I can use the VOIP calling on it anytime. I just wanted to upgrade the firmware by debranding so the battery life would improve, amongst other things.
