If you want to keep the camera flash on while video recording you can use Nicelight.
NiceLight features:
* Triple mode torch (camera flash, display light, all modes);
* Night clock with skinnable interface;
* Applications backlight manager;
* Battery discharge built-in control;
* Broken pixels detector;
* Extended customization options;
* and even more when you try it.

I read somewhere that keeping the (flash) light on continously can 'damage' it? is this true? or is it just for xenon flashes and not LED's which the N95 has got?

This app only lights up the Red light on the back, not the white/flash light.

keeping the led light on can damage it...this has been discussed and it was advised not to do this.

I would imagine that the flash uses a high-intensity LED, fed very briefly with high current from a capacitor, running the LED on a continuous high current even if it were possble, would probably not be the wisest move! ;)
