then i hear a dreaded sound its the Windows XP chime to say something thats plug and play has been disconnected! Anyway the update continues and the suddenly the phone goes blank and it comes up saying Phone Recovery on the NSU needless to say i shat myself big time thinking my phones a blooming BRICK!!! so it had 3 steps to follow

1) Unplug from charger and remove battery.
2) reinsert battery and connect charger.
3) press power button for a few seconds then press retry.

so i did all these things and the nokia screen came back on the phone. the NSU was saying estimated time remaining: 2 minutes. It sat like that for about 10 minutes then it suddenly changed to 25 seconds and stayed there for about 2 or 3 mins before very very slowly counting down the seconds.

Then I finally hear the good old Nokia Chimes!!!!

It worked!!!!

Thank GOD!!!

oh dear -(for me)

I had same thing happen just now

1) Unplug from charger and remove battery.
2) reinsert battery and connect charger.
3) press power button for a few seconds then press retry.

only thing is phone never came back on - pressed retry anyway and NSU now shows "connection to phone lost" please reconnect the USB cable (which I never disconnected)

can only mean one thing can't it? drat!

I'll be offline for a short while so please all suggestions welcome - phone is debranded as well - what chances of getting it sorted at a nokia svc centre

HEEELP!

Like I said earlier-I'm not ready for all this excitement. The V20 was a major upgrade with major improvments, unlike this V21-it works fine for me. Problem is...when you're a gadget geek like most of us-anything new is sooooooooo tempting

agreed fldude99, i just updated today and reinstalled most of my apps. Much faster in my opinion, youtube viewing isnt exactly pleasant, but i have to say the little bar at the bottom is just so cute on my n95 screen! lol....

i would recommend this update, especially since the new n-gage is coming out pretty soon, good to have the latest firmware installed just in case.

*saves me the trouble of uninstalling n-gage and quake anywayz..*

Unhappy Uh oh...

trunker...when the screen goes blank and it looks like it's turned off and XP lets you know something has been unplugged, thats usual. It's supposed to do that. When you yanked the battery out you interrupted the update. I'm not sure what you can do from there.

Take it to a certified Nokia service center...if they think you've fiddled with it they may charge you.

What I did once when I had effed up a Motorola was just call T-Mobile and say it stopped working...they sent out a courior with a replacement and took the old one away. Seeing as a courior is in no position to tell if I had voided my warranty I was sound. Basically it depends on how sweet your service provider is planning on being.

after saying i was not going to bother with this i just went for it yesterday. I knew i wouldnt be able to resist.

I must admit im not sorry for doing it

Things I have noticed so far (non exhaustive testing) is that the menus seem a bit faster, the web browser is definately faster and the camera shot to shot time is better.

I also made a list of all the stuff I had installed and theres very little I actually ever used ! cClock, rotateme, garmin mobile and a couple of other bits and i reckon its all good :)

Happy boy here :D

I get what you're saying ...the problem is that the NSU asked me to take out the battery? i guess it had already gone wrong at that point, I only updated to v20 last week following unlocking from orange, debranding with NSS to euro code and everything went smooth - should have stuck to v20 ...too late now :(
