Blinkin'Flip!............29 pages read, digested and headache inducing, on updating to v21 and I'm still none the wiser. Should I upgrade, shouldn't I. Sometimes even halfway through a page I'd changed my mind yet again!
Why do Nokia/SE and the like make updating these phones about as easy as nailing a jelly to the wall?
A little background............Recently picked up an
N95-1 on ebay for a snip, I think the person selling it was scared to death and couldn't wait to get rid!. Hadn't been used much and hadn't been updated from v10.0.018 (product code:0548364). Running perfectly fine with original version firmware installed but I really, really want to update to make the most of this fine phone.
A few questions to see if I've got my head around all the possible pitfalls.....
Was just about to insert Nokia PC Suite CD into my drive before I read the 29 pages. I understand there's a newer version of that available as well? Should I download that from the Nokia site (if the facility is there to do that), or will installing from the CD be okay?
Are all compatibility issues with Vista sorted now?
I've checked for the availablility of upgrading using the Nokia service, inputting version No. and product code. It informs me that v21.0.106 is the latest version to go for. So I don't need to change the product code then?
Keep sim card in and take memory card out????
I think that's it for now? My problem is, I'm using a company t-mobile sim with no contract, I just pay for calls, MMS etc. and I don't want to brick the phone as I would have little or no chance of recompense if the worst should happen. Had no end of trouble upgrading firmware in my w800i when I tried it a couple of years ago so maybe you'll understand my reticence.
Any further advice gratefully received and congratulations on such a thorough and informative forum you guys have.
