N95 8GB review by erazer007

Positives
+5MP Camera with Carl Zeiss Optics and autofocus
+Video Recording at 30fps in VGA resolution
+Dual Slider with music keys
+Built in GPS
+3.5mm audio jack
+TV-output
+8GB internal memory
+Huge 2.8”screen

Disadvantages
-No camera lens cover
-No memory expansion slot

Size
Well the phone measures 99*53*21 which is the same as the N95.But the black color of the 8GB makes it look thicker. The phone fits in the pocket easily (I have big pockets; I have tried it only once to avoid scratching the camera lens).

Build Quality, Materials and Keys
Well the build quality is excellent compared to the N95. Sliding the phone gives a different clicking sound than the N95. The keys remain unchanged except for the keys on the upper part. Their size has been reduced to accommodate the bigger screen. When you first look at it you feel like you may not click the right button, but, the size of these keys are perfect. The materials used in this are different from the N95. The back of the phone has a spongy feel. The front part is glossy and is in piano black color.

Screen
The screen is HUGE measuring at 2.8” with a resolution of 240*320 and supports up to 16million colors. The screen is .2” bigger than the N95. Although you may think this doesn’t make any difference, it makes a big difference in real life. The videos on the N95 8GB are better than on the IPod Video’s or Classic.

Memory
The built in memory is 8GB out of which the user gets 7672MB. For me this space is more than enough and that’s why I got the N95 8GB. However for users who require more memory than this, the N95 8GB is not the choice as it does not have a memory expansion slot. Right now there are already 8GB microSDs available in the market.

RAM
The RAM on the N95 8GB is 128MB which is double that of the N95. This is more than enough while multi tasking and I don’t think anyone can use up the RAM fully. I ran all my applications and it still doesnt use upp all the RAM.

Camera
The camera has been improved in the N95 8GB. The photos look a bit more realistic on the N95 8GB. The camera start up and processing time has also been decreased. Now it only takes 2-3 seconds to start the camera. The settings are the same as the N95. The lens is made by Carl Zeiss. The main features of the camera are 5MP with autofocus, macro mode etc. The resolution of photos taken at 5MP is 2592*1944. There is an LED flash and red-eye reduction. Videos can be captured at various resolutions and fps. The highest being 30fps at VGA resolution. There is no camera lens cover which is the biggest disadvantage in the N95 8GB. You have to take care of the lens to prevent scratches and finger smudging. Nokia has pushed the lens into the casing but still a camera cover would have been great. The performance under poor lighting has also been improved a bit over the N95. There is a CIF camera on the front for video calls.

Connectivity
It has the widest range of connectivity features available in a phone currently. It has GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, 3G (HSDPA), WLAN, Bluetooth, USB and Infra red port.

Music
The quality through the speakers is better than the N95 and is almost like the N73. The headphone quality is quite good too. There is an equalizer with some presets also. The music player is good and it displays’ album art as well as visualizations. The N95 8GB supports the same formats as the N95.

Video
Videos are crisp on the N95 8GB. The supported video formats are MPEG-4, H.264, H.263/3GPP, and RealVideo. The screen is just like a magnet. It attracts you to watching more and more videos. It is possible to watch full movies on it.

Conclusion
The N95 which was a breakthrough has been improved further by Nokia and this is a great achievement. However there are some drawbacks too such as the camera lens cover.
