This is just me, I would wait for the N96. But if you have $$ to burn... then get the N95, and when the N96 comes out in Aug, get that too..

Im still wary about battery life for the N96. Im aware its supposed to have much improved comsumption, but I still think it might fall badly short.
Personally, Id get an N82

If cash isn't an issue, and you're not desperate for it, wait for the N96.
Personally I love my N95, I had it since they came out in the U.K, And it's a great phone, so I have no reason to update.
From experiance, they always tend to be slightly buggy, or not quiet 100% like the N95 on V11. That was all ironed out in V12.
But saying that, I am a Nokia geek, but I can't wait for it to come out as it's something new.

First generally available in March/April 2007, the N95 was the N-series flagship, Nokias top-of-the-range model, it still is... The N96, despite its' model number, is not the successor to the N95, nor is it intended to be, if anything, unless you have a pressing need for the on-board TV-receiver, it's considered by some to be a downgrade.
The true replacement for the N95 is expected to appear after the 'Tube' (itself classed as a mid-range handset), is marketed, end of '08, beginning of '09.
To better the N95, we have a long wait yet for the Nokia N-series, 'next-generation' flagship phone!

I was told at Nokia Academy that it will be the N95's successor, and that at the moment the N82 was Nokias flagship model

I'm afraid they might have been feeding you a line, or were mistaken, MrG. When I was speaking with the N82 project manager and others from the team, Nokia comms director and other parties at Nokia HQ in Finland for the announcement of the N82 in November, and I was assured that the N82 was NOT to take place of the N95 as the company's flagship device.
When I sat with the N96 project manager on the day that device was announced in Barcelona, I was again told that the N96 is not to be considered a replacement, successor or otherwise to the N95.
The N95 is still the flagship device, and will remain the flagship device until 2009. An announcement will be made in late 2008, and we'll see the true flagship and N95 successor at that point- but right now, the N95 still reigns supreme.
The N96 doesn't even have hardware acceleration- how's that gonna be the new flagship device! ;)
Edit- Sp00k is correct, the next flagship device won't be the Tube either, which apparently is now known as the XpressMedia 5800, will not be an Nseries device, and it won't be a high-end device. We are expected to see another touch device after that- though it remains to be seen whether this will be the new flagship device itself. It's supposed to be a show stopper, but by the end of the year- I wonder what announcements the Nseries team will have for us!

I hear ya- just wanted to clarify- doesn't sound like they had the story straight. The N82 is indeed the 'imaging flagship', but the N95 still trumps it. :)
