Memory Low warning.

Hello all,

Just wanted to ask about Memory Low warning. I'm getting these a lot, mainly when using the internet or camera.

What I wanted to ask was..

1. Does installing apps into the phone memory have any effect on the amount of free ram you have?

2. How can you free up more memory if yo have no apps running but still get mem out warnings?

3. Can I use the phone memory or a mem card memory as extra temp system memory?

4. Why did Nokia only put a tiny amount of ram in such an amazing phone?

Regards,
Simon.

1. No
2. Don't know
3. No
4. Don't know

I agree... totally lame that there is such minimal ram for this beast of a device. It's not a costly thing to add more ram- don't know why they didn't.

The answer to 4 is "So they could rip people off by charging £60 for a 2Gb micro SD card". Fortunately you can get them for a lot less money than that.

I wouldn't have a problem with using memory cards, if there was a way to use this memory towards free system ram.

Just seems crazy to me not inlcuding more free ram. I wonder how hard it is to upgrade the ram yourself? Swap out the 64Meg one for a 128meg one?

Si

You can piggy back ram , ie solder on onto another as long as it is the same make etc. Thus giving you double the RAM. Windows Mobile has a large map for memory not sure if Symbian OS has.

Not advisable to do yourself. I think PPCTechs do this for WM machines.

i think theres something like 50mb of onboard ram, ive only hit the limit once, just remember to close your apps when you're done, or simply get a task manager to help you out

I'm running into it just opening a single web page at times. Or a good one is to record some video, then play this back in realplayer. Will do it fine until you try and play full screen, bam out of memory.

Actually, the poster's question #4 refers to RAM- system memory, not storage space.

Re: N95 memory consumption?

Hi

I am getting the same. It also does it when surfing Ebay, with nothing else open. (also when zooming in on pictures 5mb)

I have got a 2GB card in and the phone memory says
48MB Memory in Use
99MB Free Memory

Anyone got any Ideas why its doing it and how to stop it?

Also How do you access task manager, to check what running? :?:

I didn't hit the limit yet. Been running like one game (2.4Mb) with the GPS (1.28) with some other small things and I still had left about 14 MB (out of about 20MB). As you can see the apps are rather small when kept in the memory(when run).

The phone restart sometimes when playing with WiFi - other than that I don't have any problems related or not related to the memory.
