Hello!
I'm a
N95 user (UK - Orange). I found this forum from a sneaky 'ad' on Youtube and I've learned quite a bit about the shiny multimedia behemoth already.
I upgraded from an N80, before that was a SE P800 so I'm comfortable with Symbian powered smartphones. Runs nice and quick on the
N95 though!
Gave the
N95 a good test run over the weekend. Mighty impressed with it. Call quality great - speakerphone works great too (sensitive to voice but cuts out ambient rustling well)
All the PIM stuff is what I expect and is great. All the connectivity works as well as it did on N80 (ie great). After following advice from this board, sat nav is locked and pretty much locks instantly whenever I use it.
As a bonus the racing game has gfx not a million miles off PS1 Wipeout. Am I right in saying N-Gage games are compatible?
Yeah the battery life aint good so far but my N80 was just the same and after I'd calibrated by full charge / discharge a couple of times the battery life grew considerably. Thinking the same will happen with the
N95.
Cam wise - still shots are superb and a big improvement over the N80, but I'd like to hear your comments on video capture please. The first test movie I did was a 30 sec vid of my black cat, in my garden, at dusk. This would normally result in a smudy, pixelated mess on camera phones... not so with the
N95 - when outputted out through my SDTV he was strutting round in full whiskers clarity! :-)
So after showing off this fantastic phone to Mrs Dialler, she requested that I video her at the following day's horse show jumping competition she was participating in. I left
N95 vid settings as TV HQ, image stabilisation. Conditions were bright sunshine and obviously fast moving subject. File size was over 45mb for 2:15 of video footage 8-( (where's that 2GB memory card I ordered?) But results weren't nearly as good as the cat vid. Pixelated, colour would noticably change from warm red to cool blue tints, and it had a masking effect reminiscent of "A Scanner Darkly" (!). I may of over done it on the digital zoom - anything more than halfway seems bad, certainly with fast moving objects anyway.
Have any of you guys experimented with sports video capture? what settings did you think worked best?
Oh another Q please. Can I have my music playing as a background task and when I get Nav Commands they will play over the music? When I'm driving I play MP3s off the phone out through the car speakers and I want the helpful space lady's voice to still be heard!
Thanks,
Mr Dialler
