Comparison with N96 - battery life

In most respects the N96 is a very minor improvement on the N95 8Gb (extra led flash, sw updates, gps/camera integration OTB, DVB-H)

However I'm not convinced about the battery/power story. With it's battery at only 950 instead of 1200 on the surface it could be 25% down. The justifications given on improved power savings have also been used to justify the latest N95-*gb firmware updates.

I'm not expecting an answer, but sent customer care an email

Nigels blog - of things tech: Nokia N96 vs N95 8Gb - note to nokia

If it's as good (or bad) as the N95 8Gb (which is such a good phone) is now, then it's worth a shot.
If it's any more than 10% worse I'll skip.

Needless to say the xenon flash *would* have been a killer. But since I use web browser etc much more I chose the N95 8Gb over the N82

That battery life will be no worse than the 8GB version, it may even get better with more updates this year etc.

How about an intro ?

Seriously, bloggers, dont just use forums like this as an advertising board. Put something into it first.

Apologies if that was not appropriate. It was really only to try and link the topics together.

It is an area I'm intrigued by -- mind if I just dig in to that reply. You reckon it's no worse than the N95 8Gb. That of course is great news, but do you really believe this to be true -- do you have any solid facts (not asking you to share them). That additional 25% of battery resource that the N95 8Gb has is quite significant.

No I don't, do you have any reason to doubt it ?

Nokia learnt the lesson with the N95-1 V11.

Yes I do. (I do want to believe it)
Different users want different things I guess. Maybe the experiment was not succesfull as it increased the size/weight, and for lighter users, perhaps not an issue

I think that its going to massively vary. They say theres much improved battery saving, but I suspect thats just in standby.

I cannot see that they will have been able to improve power consumption much when actually using these apps fully (wifi, bluetooth, GPS etc).

So in short, I reckon its going to last longer for those that dont use it much, if that makes sense.

Rough example - You have an N95 (classic) with the same battery. I reckon, that with the exact same usage of apps and whatnot, the following would happen:

In light use, the N95 lasts quite a bit less than the N96.

In heavy use, the N95 has little difference in battery life.

I think for power users, its going to be a letdown.

And DVB on a 950 battery? Thats got to be a mistake. Unless of course, if you live in the UK.

UK Users won't get DVB, it's a different region.
