Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue with regard to receiving some texts messages as just the number without an associated name from the contacts directory.

Normally when receiving a text, the message comes to the inbox with the last name, then the first name which is normal for this phone, as all my names are stored in contacts with 1st and last names identified separately. All my numbers are stored in the correct format with + then the international code then number. For example +441234567890. Also there are no duplicated numbers shared between different contacts. All the contacts are on the phone and the sim card is empty.

The strange thing is that it doesn't happen all the time, a text could come from one person as just the number, then a few minutes later one could come in from the same contact number, but this time as the name. The phone is an N95-1 v20 (unlocked o2 branded firmware).

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know why it's started doing this? I haven't done anything to the phone that might affect this as far as I'm aware. It doesn't happen a lot, and on all the contacts that it has happened, I checked and the numbers stored were all fine correct format an no dupes??

Only had this happen when i had duplicates in phone after transfer from old phone which was k800i.This for some reason put names in with numbers added which caused some to be added twice.Do not know why it did this.Have a good look through your directory and see if you can see any mistakes.If not you could copy numbers safely onto your pc and do a reset on your phone.

Thanks, but i already know that there are no dupes. The contacts have been on the phone since new about a year ago and haven't changed besides i checked, and if that were the case it would happen all the time not just off and on. i already tried deleting and restoring problem ones and it still happens. The names come back again for no reason not sure why, will reflash the phone but maybe its a faulty sim?

i had similar problem. Here is how i sorted it.. 1 use nokia pc suite to back up contacts as they are. 2 remove the contacts off the phone using the phone its self. 3 put the sim in another phone which allows to remove the sim contacts. 4 go back to to your pc and ensure that way there are no dupes. Re enter the sim card and re write the contacts from fresh.

Will give that a go but have ordered a new sim card will try that 1st when it arrives in a few days in case it's that. You have to be very careful how contacts are restored a Npc suite sometimes does not transfer all the details from a contact if there are multiple numbers per contact. It depends on the labelling prefix.

Can't see it being a card error, more than likely a contact still on there after deletion.

Know what you mean about backing up, try 3-4 back ups before removing old contacts.

Well.....

from it just being some texts it has now progressed to ALL texts now without a name which as you can imagine is a nightmare!!

All the messages are stored on the memory card (very new 8gb sandisk) and save sent messages is selected & number of saved messages is set to max 999. There are lots of messages there as i don't tend to delete.

One thing i just noticed which i think is relevant: If i go into the INBOX and mark either a single message or multiple message i can delete. But if i enter a message so that the text can be read and then select delete i get an error message and i cannot delete the message.

The message has a big red exclamation mark and says:
Text message:
Memory full. Close some applications and try again!

I can delete from the SENT folder from within the message though without issue.

I switched to the phone memory and was able to delete a couple of messages in there from within the message without any error. So this may be related to the memory card somehow.The card has over 3 gigabyes free though so is nowhere near full.

I will have to test to see if the errors occur when using the phone memory for texts instead of the MC and report back. Maybe there is some corruption in the INBOX??

ok 1749 objects in the INBOX according to PC suite. So the 999 limit must apply to the number of saved sent messages not received ones as there are 998 messages in the sent items as I just deleted that one as a test.

The sent items just deleted the oldest message when you reach the limit and send another. Even below the 999 saved sent messages i still can't delete from within the message in the inbox.
