You can download the nokia updater from anywhere, its all the same. The updater actually downloads the firmware from the net anyway.

Branding means Orange, vodafone, and other carriers can customize the firmware, i.e. disable VOIP so they can make more money wiht voice calls, put their own logo/graphics on your phone, specific network settings, and other bits and pieces.

Debranding means wiping their branded firmware and putting the generic nokia firmware on. But this may void your warranty.

Oh okay, thanks so much Anarchi! N95's aren't supported here in the states, so I guess AT&T/Cingular and T-mobile wouldn't be customizing any firmware, right?

Thanks for the help!

There are rumors, and have been for some time about Cingular picking up the N95 later this year. But no- Cingular currently does not sell the N95, therefor no Cingular modified firmware.

Strange, are you typing that on the main standby screen just as if you were dialing a phone number?

Yes, I'm dialing it as if i were calling someone. Do you think it's because I'm using the n95-1 U.S model?

Well, that code works on just about every Nokia phone I've had over the last few years so it would be a bit odd if they didn't use that code in certain regions. Maybe someone else with a US model can comment?

Um is there is any chance someone on a Three Australia branded N95 phone will be able to upgrade to Version 12 any time soon? So far NSU is reporting no update available. Frustrating, as having some problems with stalling when using WPA1 WLAN and general other stalling that only a 'soft' power cycle will resolve.

I just upgraded my Orange UK handset to this version after like 5 months of it coming out bloody Orange.... I wonder how long I'm going to have to wait until I can download the newer update.
