****. I did not do this. I didn't realize how much I had customized on my N95. The menu is screwed, my bookmarks are gone, the softkey and active shortcut keys are wrong.... I'm a mess. :(
The good news is that the media menu is much faster, the camera sounds are in sync with the **** shutter, or non-existant now if I want. :) Usermode still doesn't save settings when you close the camera app?? That's lame. Oh well... off to reinstall a crapload of applications...

^ your apps should still be on the memory card, you just need to re-activate them in the App Mgr (unless you formatted the card, or you installed the apps in the phone memory)

Since I got the N95, with it's 160mb internal memory, I've been installing all programs to the phone because I have the 1 gig card that came with it and a 2gb card... so if I swap cards, my programs will still be there. I didn't realize that the update was going to format the device until I started getting into it. It'd be nice if I didn't have to spend an hour and a half changing preferrences and setting up menus everytime and update comes out. They obviously need to fix a lot more- I don't think it will be tremendously long before we see another update.
This one does cover a lot of ground though. The list of changes over at n95blog.com is pretty decent.

If you post your Product Code and Operator Variant people can post when a version for your phone becomes available.

I don't think it matters where you bought your phone. Even if you have a SIM free model that does not yet have firmware available, changing your Product Code may still invalidate your warranty.

I think the bookmarks are synchronised with your PC if you use PC Suite synchronisation. Your IE favouritesd should have an extra folder, 'Mobile Favorites' or similar. Sync again and they'll return along with contacts, calendar items, notes etc.

Then I'll have to sync up sometime before the next update. ;)
I've never used pc suite with my N95 yet... they're not friends yet.
I just wasn't thinking I guess... too tired from the 18 hour shift at work. I read the **** change list at n95blog and got too excited to wait.

I changed the hell out of my code. There were a couple things I didn't like about the firmware- such as the inability to silence the camera sounds... kinda makes it hard to get candid shots- and can just be annoying to others around at times. That and the change list was TOO tempting and changing the product id was too easy.

In some regions it is illegal to sell a camera without this warning, and IIRC illegal to remove such warnings too! If your camera sounds don't vanish by turning off warning sounds and/or switching to silent mode, then your region is affected by this privacy alert.
No doubt the US as a whole, or certain states will uphold this law. The APAC region mostly has imprisonment as a punishment if caught! AFAIK it only applys to devices purchased and used in that region - unless you're using your device in a naughty way, regardless of region!
You've been warned folks.
