more activation on active screen? How?

I changed from a Windows Mobile 5 device to N95. Now i´m a bit disappointed with the homescreen. It is called active screen or something but...well.. i don´t see much activation. It shows only a calendar item thats all. The remaining part is wasted with my background.

Is there a way for more activation like mails in the inbox folder, more calendar items, actual wheater, latest rss feeds .....?

It will show To-do items too.

There is a Nokia application called Carbide that allows you to create your own Themes. I don't know if you can add apps and info with it though.

Having also just moved from Windows Mobile, I've noticed the same thing. Individual apps can add their own stuff to the screen (for instance the LCG Jukebox adds a mini "Now Playing" thing) but I've not found any way of adding my own stuff (such as an RSS feed).

Thanks gadgetman for this link. Unfortunately i realised that the N95 hasn´t the option to show Mails on Homescreen. Some E-Series phones have configureable active standby plugins. But the N95 don´t has it.
