Can the N95 play embedded Flash video (not 8) in the browser, streamed?
We have a client who want to supply their staff with Nokia N95s and watch streaming videos on them. They have used S60 Symbian devices previously but the video casn noly be played in the standalone Real player lite, something they want to avoid. I'm aware that Flash 8 video isn't supprted, but does anyone know if earlier Flash video will work, embedded in pages? IF so, any idea whether this is limited to SWF files or can it be streamed from Flash Server too?
Thanks in advance!

Short answer is no.
Another short answer is soon, maybe.
A slightly longer answer is that as far as I know, the Nokia N95 Flash Player only plays .swf files, and not .flv files which is the format of flash streaming video. It's currently the reason why youtube doesn't work, for example. We are all keeping our fingers crossed, (probably in vein). lol.

I've looked into this and can expand on the answer:
the Flash Player installed on the phone doesn't support the media components or media actionscript used to play FLV videos, its not a case of the flash player not being able to play .flv's - sites like youtube run a .swf, in which a media component pulls in a .flv and plays it.
I'm sure one day they'll have a full version of flash released along side the real version, though - I lothe adobe, so heres the biased statement: I'm sure if Macromedia were still around, they'd have it done by now ;)

Well put! The users always suffer from big mergers like that. At least for a while anyway.

Hello, thanks everyone for your input. Discovered recently that support for Flash Video will be introduced in Flash Lite 3, a private beta of which was due in June. Apparently, it will support the newer On2 codec (i.e. Flash 8) but I would have reservations about the N95 being powerful enough for real-time VP6 video decoding - never know though!
A note: the time for release for Flash Lite 3 itself should be close, but time for porting this to various platforms might take longer. Watch this space?

Exactly, join the club. **** thing is overdue, not to mention makes m.youtube.com redundant for all of us. And thats a good thing too, as although I'm impressed overall, I would prefer the full youtube experience...
