Unlock n95 code the same?

I read something some where that the unlock code is the same for all n95s on a certain network. I dont believe this to be true but just to back me up. Is it?

i dont know a guaranteed answer, but i wouldnt have thought so...

it would more likely be imei specific, aswell as network...

The N95 belongs to a generation of mobile phones called BB5 (Baseband 5), that followed on from earlier DCT4 and DCT3 families. The DCT families can be unlocked using a code generator if you know your IMEI and the network the phone is locked to.

I'm pretty sure that, apart maybe for one person in the Balkans who guards his secret, only the network that a BB5 phone is locked to can unlock it. Nokia will not. Flashing does not. The bb5.exe program is a hoax. eBay vendors who claim their program will do it are frauds.

I'm also fairly sure that there is only one unlocking code for any given combination of IMEI and Network Code. I have seen claims that more then one code will do it and that more then one code is needed, I don't believe it.

If you put a wrong code in, I think, three times you cannot unlock the phone with the correct code - it will need to be done by a service centre in conjunction with your operator. I have heard that Nokia will reset the counter if you have done this, but still will not unlock the phone.

All clarifications and corrections welcome -I have no inside info, only what I've built up from reading various sources.

I'm sure a discussion on Nokia forums once even suggested that it was the networks that invoke the codes now, hence why they want all their phones to be like symbian! Orange signed a contract with Nokia bout a year ago, which at some point means Orange will only have BB5!

I think the ideais a network gen their own hash key, which scrambles the IEMI and is used as the network lock. Not seen an unlock code, but IIRC someone (again on Nokia Forums) said it was 32 digits long in HEX.

Obv this is a guarded secret, so I doubt there will ever be anything official, and any blogs etc detailing it will be given a CAD order

Interesting about each network generating their own key. There's planty of Unlock code/IMEI pairs around on the net on fora dedicated to finding the algorithm. My N70 and N80 unlock codes, both kindly provided by Vodafone for free because they were over a year old were both similar to:

"Further to your communication with Vodafone regarding the unlocking of your Nokia handset, I have set out the following procedure and unlocking code:

1. With the Vodafone sim card inside the handset

2. Key #pw+129022718795152+1# (The p w and + symbols are found by keying the * key twice for the + symbol, three times for ‘p’ and four times for ‘w’)

3. The handset should then display “Sim restriction off” which means it is unlocked

NB. If the handset fails to unlock, then please do not attempt to enter any sequence more than twice, as you will risk permanently blocking your handset. "

I think the onlyway to ever know for sure is if someone collects peoples IEMI, Product code, and unlock codes.

Once you've ammessed a few hundred, I'm sure some bright spark can decode it and make themselves a lot of cash from it!

There are rumours that a person by the name of Dejan has done this and will unlock BB5 phones. The only snag being he's based in the Balkans and has to have the phone shipped to him.

I believe that there is a UK firm who will organise this for you, but with Vodafone only charging 20 quid to unlock (I don't know about the other networks) its not cost effective.

The Nokia Flash Reverse Engineering website (nokiafree.org) have tried to collect IMEI and unlock codes to do this but not succeeded yet.

If you want to despair at the stupidity of humanity check out the number of requests for BB5 unlock codes amongst all the authoritative posts saying it can't be done.

And then I pop out to lunch over SHepherds Bush Green and see three vendors offering to unlock N70 and N90 phones and wonder what's up.

I check on nokiafree.org and Dejan has released his solution that will unlock N70s and N90s but not N95s yet. Must only be a matter of time.

Best get my (operator) unlocked N80 on ebay while its still worth something.

They're going for around £130+ network locked. Unlocked all depends.

Orange gave me £100 trade in against the N95, so wasnt worth the agro for me.

I am yet another proud owner of a Nokia N95 & Nokia N80.

Yes, I do like my gadgets, but even more I am business oriented and work in the communication industry, NO I DO NOT SELL PHONES!!!, so I do need all the additional facilities from WLAN when testing networks and simple internet communication and research, installation of additional symbian programs that simplify my life, GPS to know where I need to be when I am sent away, 5MP Camera... I like the web cam feature.

Anyway, more related to the topic, I have the unlocking software for most phones, I am trying to test it out at the moment, it can do BB5 for mobiles such as 6680 and UNL 6.5, which is the one for the latest phones, i.e. N95.

Unfortunately this is of no use to me since 3 Australia (I generally call them 3 India) unlock these phones for you anyway, but I got it mainly to use on my old 6680 which I palmed off to my dad because it was locked, and unlocking some of my mates that have been nagging me about getting their phones unlocked. I work in Paging communication systems so I need to test and setup different SIM cards, and some of my staff also need this feature.

If you have queries about unlocking you phone or communication systems in general, give me a shout...

Also things I am looking for:
- A program that allows me to use my IR as a remote for my TV, DVD and so on.
- Get TomTom to use the internal GPS.
- Being able to use one of the WLANs that I connect to, they are using VPN.
- Developing software for Symbian so that I can create all the programs that I want, or tweak ones that I have to do additional features that I need of them.
