Tilt Sensor

I cant say for certain but I believe our phone has a tilt sensor to determine if the phone is held in either the normal upright position or the landscape position. I think so because I noticed that when taking pictures with the camera, the resultant image saved in the gallery is always upright regardless of which of the two positions the phone was held in while the photo was taken.

Can someone confirm that I am not crazy.

Also do any of the spec sheets mention this feature, which I could have overlooked?

It certainly does have an orientation sensor, presumably it could be put to more use than just the camera.

Somehow i dont think it has a tilt sensor.... It might just have some kind of software in it that sences which way up a photo should be.

The reason i say this is because i have taken certain images the right way up but the n95 thinks it makes more sense looking the other way around.. so it flips the image 180 degrees!!

Either is possible, or you might have a faulty tilt sensor..... ;-)

The only explanation would be detecting light sources, which are always higher, rather than lower. (Think sunlight, ceiling lights, etc)

So what someone needs to do is go to a light neutral place - no natural or artificial light sources (e.g. A very dark cave) and take some photos to see... ;p

It goes without saying, that this isn't going to work.

You mean 90 degrees? :)

I'm quite certain it's done with software. I've read reviews (mobile burn) where the pictures weren't oriented correctly.

Tilt sensor or software.. I'm happy it does it, even if it doesn't always work. I was completely not expecting this feature and see it as a great bonus.

Ah, you say almost blank.... So, when you say it got it 'right', how are you defining right?

Ill check on this sw vs hw issue myself at some point. But if i were to make an educated guess I would think that it would be a HW sensor, as they are very tiny and very cheap. Also the logistics of a SW based sensor would be rather complicated, whatever ever algorithm was used, in particular the one mentioned above about light sources always being above a subject.

Yes, agreed, the sensors are very cheap and easy to implement, the software implementation would have cost loads in R&D! Not to mention would have to be inaccurate on some occasions.
