Recording for full 54 mins and encountered a problem

I put my N95 on a stand in the living room and left it recording a video of the living room for the full 54 mins just to see how much space it would use on my 4gb and how long will it drain a full battery charge........

It used up exactly 991mb of space on the 4gb and at the end of recording I had 5 bars left on my batter indicator.

What really got me scared was at the end of the 54 mins , the entire phone was so **** hot I simply couldnt hold it in my hand, yes it was that hot. I couldnt even hold it to close the lens cover.

I swear I will never record video for that length of time again for fear of damaging my N95. Isnt it possible that this extreme heat can damage the phone?

Has anyone encountered this problem?

There is a similar issue with high-power torches (flashlights). When you leave them running they get hugely hot. However, they are designed to be held in the hand, not left alone, and your hand acts as a cooling system because the heat is conducted into your hand and your blood flow disperses the heat. It is likely that if you held the N95 in your hand for the 54 mins, rather than putting it on a table, it would not get that hot.

Hmmm. Alright I'm going to try that and see what happens too.

I watch DVD's on mine and typically watch them for 1.5 - 2 hrs at a time. At the end of the train journey the phone is very very hot. Not too hot to touch but hot enough to make me wonder if it's about to pack up.

how do you watch DVDs on the phone? Do you need to run some fancy application to convert them? How much space does a DVD typically require?

I use DVD decrypter then convert them using the Red Kawa PS3 converter. Using the settings I use a DVD takes up about 300-400Mb.

There are looooads of threads on here regarding converting DVD's to the N95. Might be worth taking a nose through them, there are some useful links and pieces of info.
