Setting-Up SymSMB v2.0
N.B. Certain details have been changed to protect the innocent... Me! ;)
Start SymSMB program Go to.... Options/Settings
1. ACCOUNTS
Select... Accounts/Options/New
Domain: Enter the name of your PC (obtained by right-clicking 'My Computer'
and selecting Properties/Computer Name and reading off the 'Full computer name:' as shown)
Name: Enter your username, as recognised by your PC, (Detailed in Control
Panel/User Accounts window)
Password: Enter a password of your choice (NOT the one set up to access your PC)
OR you can leave this 'as is', which means that when the program asks for a password,
you need only press 'ok' to continue.
You should now see:
Pressing 'Back' displays:
2. CONNECTIONS
Press 'Back' again and scroll to 'Connections' and select it, go to
Options/New
Name: Enter a name for the connection, any SIMPLE name you like, 'Fred' for
example, will do here. :)
Access Point: Enter 'Always ask'.
Auto connect: Enter 'No'.
Press 'Back' and you'll see:
3. SHARED FOLDERS
Press 'Back' again and select Shared folders/Options/New
Select 'Shared folder' and you'll see:
C:\
E:\
SELECT C:\ and you'll see:
Shared folder
:C\
Name
Disk_C
Select 'Name: Disk_C' and enter a name for this drive... As it's the main phone memory, I called it "Data1"
OK that and you'll see:
Shared folder
C:\
Name
Data1
Press Back and select 'Yes' to add permissions, select ACERLC/Spike (Your equivalent)
as 'Account' and verify Read & Write permissions, so that you then see:
Account
ACERLC\Spook (Your account name)
Read
Yes
Write
Yes
Now press Back to return to the settings menu and select Shared folders again and
select Options/New/Shared folder and this time
SELECT drive E:\. Select 'Name Disk_E'
and enter a name for this drive... As it's the memory-card, I called it "Data2"
OK that and you'll see:
Shared folder
E:\
Name
Data2
Press Back and add permissions as you did previously for drive C:
Press Back until you reach the main settings screen, select Shared folders and you'll see:
4. NETWORK DRIVES
Press Back to get to main settings screen again and select Network drives/Options/New
Click on Name and call it a SIMPLE name of your choice, here I chose Joe, and press Back.
Click Drive and choose one from the list that isn't already in use, I chose V:\
Click Access point, select User-defined and choose your WiFi access name.
Click Account and select (in my case) ACERLC\Spook, as you have done before.
Now we come to 'Host name' and it gets a little more complicated due to a bug that
was discovered, entering the name of your PC can cause problems, so you need to use its IP address.
On your PC go to Start/Run... enter 'cmd' and ok it... in the DOS window that appears, type 'ipconfig'
and press 'enter' and you'll see the IP address of your PC listed, enter this address as the Host name.
Click on share and enter the share name of the folder that you wish to be able to access on your pc
(must be a shared folder) and the 'share name' of this folder must correspond to the name you enter here.
To share a folder on your pc, right click the folder and select propertes. Select the 'sharing' tab and tick
the two boxes under 'network sharing and security'. The share name will auto complete as the name of
the folder and it's advisable to leave it this way! Select OK.
N.B. I ignored the last part of this advice and named mine "cshare".
You should end up displaying:
Press back and you should see:
Joe
V:\(\\192.168.0.10)
Press Back twice more to see:
NOW CONNECT PHONE TO PC
On the above screen go to Options/Settings/Connections and you'll see:
Fred
Not Connected
Click to connect until you see:
Fred
192.168.0.2 (or similar)
Leave SymSMB connected!!
#####################
NOW TO MAP THE PC DRIVES
Open Windows Explorer and click on Tools/Map Network Drive
Select the same drive letter that you chose earlier on the phone, in my case it's V:
For the folder name enter: "
\\ACERLC\cshare "... or your own equivalent names.
Click on Map Network drive again, choose an unused drive letter and name the folder "
\\Fred\Data1 "
Once again click on Map Network drive, choose an unused drive letter and name the folder "
\\Fred\Data2 "
N.B. None of the three names are underlined!
When/If asked for a password, use the one that you set up in SymSMB on your phone,
If you left the password field 'as-is' then you don't need to fill it in, just click 'OK'.
#####################
Now if you go to SymSMB on your phone and select V:\ from the first screen, you will see the contents
of your shared PC folder listed there... Hopefully! ;)
You will also see extra drives listed on your pc, such as:
"data1 on 'fred' (X:)" Clicking on these will
open up the relevant directory from your phone as an external hard-drive on your pc.
