Hey Folks,
After seeing ads for it in Europe, I bought an
N95 as soon as I got back to Canada in June from TigerDirect.ca. It's a great phone but I was having an issued with the power cutting out and last Sunday it refused to turn on at all. (Plus the slider was REALLY loose).
After trying multiple batteries, I called the Nokia Canada number to find out how to get warranty work done. The guy I talked to (who was obviously not Canadian) asked me a few questions and then requested the serial number under the battery. This is where the problems started.
As we all know, the phones TiDi sell are unlocked U.S. phones so Nokia Canada won't fix them. I was told I COULD sent it to the U.S. for repairs, and they WOULD fix it under warranty, however they WON'T ship it back to Canada, only within the U.S.?!?!?!
I was SERIOUSLY worried I had a $700 brick simply because of some weird Nokia warranty rules. I debated with this guy for 10 minutes but got nowhere. My only possible course would be to start calling old university buddies who lived in the U.S. and have them ship it here. Big hassle.
That's when TigerDirect.ca came to the rescue. I called them up and explained the problem. I was prepared to go on about how their site advertises a Nokia warranty that can't be honoured, but they told me to just send it back and they would replace it!! Not only that, but they would refund my old order and I could buy the phone at the new (lower) price... and they shipped it for free!! All of this almost 90 days after purchase.
I ordered a new
N95 while I was on the phone with them and it arrived today (3 days). What can I say, I'm one happy customer... taking for granted my refund comes through once they get my old phone.
So, if you are buying a U.S.
N95, or any other Nokia phone not sold in Canada, make sure you either:
a) Have an American friend (aren't all American's our friends?)
b) Buy from someone reputable.
