Better music player

Coming from the ipod video and itunes I used to have... why is the music player on the n95 and indeed the way you put music on to the phone just.. ermm appauling!!

Compilation albums are my main problem
The phone doesnt understand them - and lists every artist from every track in the artist menu - which means I have 2,000 artists and its difficult to find an album by a specific artist

It also doesnt understand disc numbers so will play track 1 from cd1 then cd2 then cd3 - then go back to track 2 for cd1 etc...

I use media player 11 to sync to the phone which does work well - but also it doesnt understand disc numbers. Although thankfully it does understand compilations and lists them under "Various Artists"

What do you guys/girls all do with regards to music? How do you put music on your N95, how do you get around the shocking handling of multi disc compilation albums?

for me, i just put it on shuffle so it doesn't really matter.

i do edit the mp3/mp4/wma tags with a tag editor; the artist names, album, and title. and transfer them to memory card via a card reader.

so far the songs info render properly, and if i make playlists, i do it from the player. no sych-ing with my pc whatsoever

Personally I hate id3v1 and id3v2 tags. They are so clumsy and insufficient for big collections and custom tagging. Every music player has a different level of implementation of id3 tags, so the problems that you describe arise.

I use ape or vorbis tags only. I use wavpack for lossless audio and ogg for lossy. I do have plenty of mp3s but they only contain ape tags. I use Linux btw, but Foobar2000 (through wine) as my player/organizer (the best player IMHO).
So, when it comes to load music into N95:
I keep a "N95 music" folder on my pc and there I convert (automatically within Foobar) every file to ogg (192kbps).
I sync the folder with N95 (via rsync) and I'm ready to go. I use Coreplayer in N95 to listen. It allows sorting by Filepath and I have the files named properly (disknumber.tracknumber.title etc)

I just organize my MP3's into my own folders, and get a 3rd party app to play it.

No offense to anyone...but the built-in player absolutely sucks.

It's usable...and that's all that can be said of it.

Currently I'm using TTMusic(TTPod) ....take a look at an English introhere

And download here

It's a nice player with karaoke lyrics, customizable skins and playback from folders.

I just use the Nokia Player, but like others, have it on random shuffle.

I'm fortunate that I kept lossless copies of all the CD's I've bought in the last few years, batch converted them to 64k aacplus and have around 1800 tracks on my 4gb card. aacplus even sounds okay at 48k, wipes the floor with mp3.

I use nokia player too but I found its more about the software you transfer with. I use media monkey and would highly recommend as its great for everything you need to organise your music if you have loads.

MediaMonkey Free MP3 Jukebox Player, Music Library Organizer

I use the LCG Jukebox

Though I don't mind the Nokia player, I sometimes prefer it since the dedicated music keys don't work with other apps.
