My phone says no service.. plz help!!

Sorry I posted this twice...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HI Everyone!! Im new so hope I put this in the right spot...I bought a Nokia N95, recieved it today. However when I put my SIM in it says no service. I use Rogers which uses GSM, which is what the manual says the phone uses.

Also before I bought it, I did everything to make sure it was authentic, and seeing it here, I know it is nokia, but in the book it says for support to look at Nokia Nseries, and it also says it has Asian maps downloaded on the GPS.... Did I get the wrong phone??? will it not work here??

Is your SIM card a 3G sim card? I'm not positive but I believe when I upgraded to the N75 it said I needed a 3G sim card so might be that the N95 needs one as well.

I just have a normal sim card, (i've seen 3G ones have 3G printed on them) and i can still surf the net and do everything like that.

SLR makes a good point - The phone is probably trying to recieve a reception via UMTS

Go to:
Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Phone -> Network -> Network Mode -> GSM

I'm not sure what to suggest - It may be a branded device I suppose, which could possible explain the services restrictions

De-branding/firmware updating can be a bit of a daunting process though for a new user
