Question Format N95 8GB

Hi guys first post on the forum, just want to start off by saying great community :-) iv been doing a great deal of reading and have learnt alot.

Anyways I got myself a N95 8GB last week and have really been enjoying it. Decided to upgrade the firmware yesterday and managed to upgrade from
v10 to v11. Now I look on the net today and see that v15 has been released, just my luck lol.

So im going to upgrade to v15 but what i would like to know is, what is the best way to completely reset the phone? The reason being that I have a video that’s in the video centre and it refuses to be deleted although it is physically not on the phone any more.

Can I format the 8GB memory by plugging the phone into the pc in data transfer mode and use windows to format it?

Should I first format the phone (*#7370#) before installing the new firmware?

What’s the best procedure to follow in order to get a completely fresh phone?

Thanks for your help
Chris

It will be like new after installing the new firmware so just go ahead and update.

Is your N95 8gb sim free/generic,if it's not then the firmware may not be available for your handsets network yet,it's worth finding out though.

format your mass storage first. updating your firmware is the same thing as doing a hard reset (*#7370#) as it will wipe out everything. but you can also do the hard reset if you want.

I'm not sure if the flash memory is affected during a firmware install, you may have to reformat it manually (You can do this from the phone itself)

It would be useful to know though, if you fancy being a guinea pig :D

If you removed some apps that where first installed with the firmware, they wont be reinstalled though so it is a little different

Wow thanks for the quick reply guys.

So its
1) Format the mass memory, either using the phone itself or windows.
2) Then upgrade to v15 firmware

Sounds easy enough, lets hope v15 really does speed things up.

Just one more question though. I live in South Africa and the phone came preloded with SA maps. When I upgraded the firmware from v10 to v11 I didnt loose the maps, I presume the reason being that I didnt format the mass memory and the maps are kept there?

Now that Im going to format the memory im obviously going to loose the maps, do I just use nokia map loader and download the maps again or can I back up the maps some how?

Thanks Again

i do it this way. when i update to a new firmware i just format my memory card/ mass storage and just flash it. it'll tell you that it will erase everything so do your backup so i thought it's just the same thing.

It will be best to reinstall them straight from Map Loader - It shouldn't take much more effort, and you will avoid all (If any) complications this way
