This is a great idea! This would have saved me a few of my earlier posts, but then again I wasnt new to S60, just an older version. and yes RTFM is great but only goes so far. (I assume the other variation of RTFB is b=book), I did , wasn't so good, but at least it has a respectable amount of documentation, many digital devices have little to no documentation.

What do people think would be better, a list of the threads like such or just a list of FAQs and answers along with some explanations and really useful tips?
|
I think a bit of both, depending on what it is , and if there is an existing thread or not.

There is also the N95-5 which is sold in Japan. This handset is the same as the N95-1 except it does not support WiFi. The latest FW version is ???

This is great but sometimes information like this is best formatted in port form or a chart/table. One other thing, can we please say NA 3G rather than US 3G, us Canadians always get forgotten.
see attached image of the html table i created.
jkopee great work so far!!

Ok as for the #xxxx codes I was thinking since it's already in the Tips section I didn't want to repeat it but I'll add it to here if it's desired.
H@T trick I like your table idea and I already have some HTML code saved with a table about that size so I can just redo the info in it to match what we need (luckily). Question for Admin, if I post the html code for the table into the thread post will it show up?

I couldn't get the html to show up so i took a screenshot, pasted to Paint and cropped as needed, I think the admins could turn HTML on for the FAQs is the box on the botom left corner of every page is accurate. this one:

i think to do that you'd have to turn html on for the whole board, i'd just make an image.
as long as you save the html you can edit it, or save the image as a .psd in photoshop.

Some more questions I think could be addressed:
Should I buy the n95 or n95 8gb?
At the end of the day making such a decision is up to you and no member of the forum is going to be able to tell you one way or the other, but the options can be weighed up as follows.
N95 8GB vs N95 Original - Difference Between Original N95 & n95 8GB
There are, as with most things, pros and cons to each option and members will happily answer any questions you have before purchase :)
How do I convert my DVDs to watch them on my n95?
There are many different methods of doing this, here are some settings for various softwares which may be helpful in providing the best quality conversion for you.
MobiDVD:
Select "iPod video" as your device.
Set bit rate to 1500.
Under "advanced settings" select MPEG 4 AUDIO as an aac
Select trim at full - stretch to fit.
WinAVI MP4:
Ipod video.
Under advanced settings:
320 X 240 VIDEO SIZE.
48000 AUDIO BITRATE.
1024000 VIDEO BITRATE.
PocketDivxEncoder:
N95 DivX Video Conversion - Vox - credit to spyda!
if you don't want to mess about so much, convert your dvd to avi using a program like winavi and then put it on your phones memory card. you can then watching it using divx for mobile, for example.
How do I change/remove my operator logo?
How do I create my own theme?
Most experienced theme makers use a program called Carbide UI. If you're not comfortable with this, simple online creators are available at places such as mobile9 and ownskin.
I suspect my n95 may be a fake, how can I tell?
Read the guide in this thread, most importantly.
Firstly, you should be able to tell by obvious phsyical signs: Compare the appearance to specification models. Some are known to have touchscreens, 2 sim card slots. Genuine n95 models do not have these features.
To check for a genuine nokia battery, go here.
If you are concerned about the authenticity of your phone, try and take some pictures and post them to us along with some details on the forum. Between us we should be able to spot a scam. Please exercise caution if you're going to buy any mobile phone or related accessory from a place like eBay and do not make a purchase unless you are exactly sure of what you are buying.
How do I lock my SMS / Gallery / Applications or Stop Pictures Showing up in my gallery?
Some applications will do this for you
(Paid)
Media Safe: import pics, vids, sounds and notes into a locked folder which media safe hides.
Advanced Device Locks: gives you the option to choose any function or application on your device (such as Messaging, Contacts, Web) and lock it with a password up to 7 digits long.
Free Options:
Set your phone so that it can only be unlocked by a password under
Settings -> General -> Security -> Phone and sim card -> Phone autolock period
ActiveLock: a free application.
To hide pictures from showing up in your gallery, simply create a new folder and insert said images into there.
For extra privacy, use the inbuilt zip application and add a password.

Thank you sweetie I'll get to putting that in to the master today and I'll see what i can do with the table. I just thought about it and might agree that it would be better as a picture being that some people are using their N95's or such to view the Forum and the table might not come out right on smaller devices.
