Description:
There are a couple of versions of the
N95 so to keep them straight here’s a brief explanation of them.
The information listed directly below can be looked up by typing *#0000# on the standby screen.
N95-1 is the original
N95 and it is easy to spot because it has the manual camera lens cover on it. This is also known as the RM-159. The latest Firm Ware available for it is Version 20.0.015 referred to as V20 on the forum. This model does not support the US 3G frequency.
N95-2 which is commonly referred to as the
N95 8 gig as it has 8 gigs of internal memory. This is also known as the RM-320 and the latest FW available is 15.0.015. This one is noticeable by the slightly larger screen.
N95-3 is the latest
N95 and supports the US 3G frequency. This is known as the RM-160. The main difference between this and the -1 is the support of US 3G and the more RAM. The latest FW available if Version 11.2.009. However, you're advised to read this
comment by Pseudofinn before getting it!
There is also the
N95-5 which is sold in Japan. This handset is the same as the
N95-1 except it does not support WiFi. The latest FW version is
My biggest tip for people just starting out with your
N95 is to create a folder on your computer where you can store everything you need for your phone. In this folder you can keep your certificates and keys, relevant programs, and most importantly, a backup of all the files you install to your phone. This is a HUGE help when you need to reinstall data to your phone such as after a problem or after a FW upgrade.

There is a vast amount of helpful people with large amounts of knowledge so if you can’t find what you need here, then use the Search at the top. Try using * at the end of what you are searching for if you can’t find it. After this feel free to ask.
When asking a question about a problem it is very useful to include your device version -1,-2,-3 and your FW version number. Other helpful info is your location and your carrier.
There’s a Thanks button at the bottom right of each persons post, if you appreciate the help then use this button.
Thanks to Mr G the man of a million themes we have one of the most extensive collections of themes I’ve seen around. Check out our

Now for some of the most common FAQs and issues
The first thing you should try doing if you are having a problem is restarting the phone. Just turn it off for a minute and then turn it back on and try again. This does relieve some minor issues and should be tried first. If it’s a connection to the computer that’s the problem, try restarting the phone and the computer and try again.

7) Does the
N95 support 8 gig microSD cards?
Yes and it has been said that it should support up to 32 gigs. There is a 12 gig card being tested from SanDisk currently.
8) I’m going to upgrade my Firm-Ware what should I do?
The first thing to do is back up all your data from your phone and your memory card. Some have found it easy to go in and make a direct copy of your images, videos, and sound folders so you can just copy them back later. Back up your data using PC suite content copier and then go ahead and follow the steps to upgrade the FW. Once finished it is highly recommended that you only restore your contacts and NOT all your settings. Another good idea is to reformat the memory card but it is not always necessary.
9) Can I compare the
N95 to the IPhone?
No, just no, there’s really no comparison at all and the IPhone doesn’t stand a chance.
Nokia PC suite common issues
There’s a lot of issues relating to PC suite and connecting the
N95 to your computer. Some of the common things to try if you are having issues are
Plug the USB cable into a different port and try again.
Restart the phone and the PC
Uninstall PC suite and ensure that all the Nokia files are removed from the computer then reinstall the latest version.
Bluetooth stuff needed here……..
There is a version of PC suite specifically for the NSeries but it’s been reported that it doesn’t work as well as the standard PC suite.
GPS problems
If you are having problems with your GPS the first thing to try is opening up the slider and setting the phone on a window sill or outside on a 45 degree angle and allow the GPS to get a lock. If this is the first time this may take a while. After this it should get a lock quickly every time.
Newer versions of the FWs have assisted GPS listed as aGPS and it is suggested that you turn this on. aGPS uses the cell tower information to estimate your location and helps the internal GPS get a lock quicker.
Certificates and Application signing.
To start off this is a lot easier than people make it out to be and once you do the initial set up for signing apps you will be able to sign as many and as often as your heart desires for the following six months, until the certificate needs renewing. It is worth taking the time to go through the process and learning to do it yourself.
Why am I getting "Certificate Error" when I try and install something?
Accelerometer
The Nokia
N95 has a 3d accelerometer built in. This is a hardware device that senses movement of the phone on more than 1 axis. For example with a program called Rotate Me

Other examples are

How do I change/remove my operator logo from the top of the screen?
How do I create my own theme?
Most experienced theme makers use a program called
Carbide UI. If you're not comfortable with this, simple online creators are available at places such as
mobile9 and
ownskin.
I suspect my n95 may be a fake, how can I tell?
Most importantly read the guide in
this thread.
Firstly, you should be able to tell by obvious physical signs: Compare the appearance to specification models. Some are known to have touch screens or 2 SIM card slots. Genuine
n95 models
do not have these features.
