Can I update my FW on N958Gb while keeping original apps?

I have my N958Gb and still in FW10. I've read so much about how fast it is to take pics with FW15, so I'd love to update the FW on the phone. But since I bought the phone in Hong Kong and it comes with a GPS app called MapKing, which is very nice for navigating in Hong Kong and China (better than Nokia map for sure), i'd love to keep that app after updating FW. But as far as I know, updating FW will lose all the pre-installed apps in the phone, right? is there anyway i can keep the apps there? I dont wanna do a backup and restore using nokia suite since I've read how many people have trouble doing that already. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

You cannot keep all your installed apps w/o a doing back-up and even with a back-up its not guaranteed that all the apps will be working after the update.Re-installing them would be the best thing to do...I think

I'm not TOO familiar with the 8gb version but does it give you an option to, say 'back up phone memory to mass memory' in the MENU>TOOLS>MEMORY>OPTIONS?

The backup function doesn't backup your installed applications. Even applications that were installed on the mass memory may not be properly installed back. Hope this info is useful.

Can sometimes work, but other times it doesn't. It will usually create small bugs in the end, and you will probably end up re-installing the firmware again to get rid of them.

Always best bet to do a fresh install IMO.

Yeah, I agree. That's y i dont really wanna do a backup/restore after FW update. But in that case, the softwares that come with the phone will be gone...and those are the stuff that I wanna keep. For all the 3rd party apps, I am sure I can download and reinstall them back...

When you say the software that comes with the phone what software do you mean? When I upgraded my N95-1 all the standard Nokia software what still there it's only the 3rd party apps you need to reinstall.

Yeah, it's only 3rd party stuff that you'll need to worry about installing again. You'll have everything else as if it were new! :)
