What Costs Money?
This is a fairly simple question. I'm on contract with orange, and have no data allowance. Do the following things which use 'the network' cost money?
AGPS - will orange charge me for pinging the towers - does it count as a gprs data transfer?
Google maps - is there a way to make this work on wifi, so that I can download the uk maps at home and then use the software away from a hotspot?
Thats basically it for now - all other network connections seem to be a direct net connection, and are available on wifi anyway.
Cheers

A-GPS - Yes, but only a minimal amount
Google Maps - You cannot 'Pre download' the maps as a whole, so no

Poor you on Orange, just like me :(
Your N95 will notify you when it wants to use the net. The AGPS shouldnt cost.
I would be very very careful with Orange. Their unlimited net bundle is 30mb at £7 per month. I recommend that if you work all day, just to get the Evening and Weekends bundle at £5 per month, I never seem to go over the data limit there.
However i have told Orange to stick their net where the sun dont shine and use a 3 pay as you go for unlimited surfing.
Good luck, and if you do go for the bundles, DOUBLE check they put it on. I have had months of customer serv reps not putting it on, and then i incur up to £200 bills!(got sorted by head office though!)

If your on about the A-GPS then it's very minimal as Giz stated earlier....so it doesn't cost alot unless your downloading maps over the air, which is just plain stupid.

Orange have mucked me about, putting on bundles I didn't ask for etc frequently, but they upgraded me to their newer plan for free (giving me unlimited texts and 600 mins instead of 500 of each), so I can't complain to much.
I would seriously recommend installing the new firmware though, it makes the phone MUCH nicer to use, the gallery loads quicker etc - and orange firmware rleases take months and months.
Think I'll definitely give gmaps a miss then. Shame.
