don't want to sign applications, is this a good idea?

I couldn't install some themes because I needed to sign the application but I really don't want to do that as I'm a bit of a computer noob. So when I was just looking through what my phone could do I came to the installing settings (applications > App. Manager > Options > Settings > Software installation) where it said 'signed only' but It has the option to change it to 'all'.

I haven't tried installing any themes as I wantcto know whether this is a good idea or whether it will cause more problems than it will solve?

I believe that option refers to a digital signature which is different from the certificate signing process that we have to perform on certain applications. When you sign an application, you are basically giving your phone exclusive 'persmission' to install it and allow it to use its resources (This is all to do with device security against 'trojans' etc.). You will need to perform this method on any application that requires it, regardless of your phones settings

Looking at your situation, you may actually be receiving a different error anyway. Themes will almost never need signing before use so you will most likely be receiving an incompatibility error or a date error. Make sure you are installing only themes for S60 3rd Edition. The theme may also require you to temporarily set the data back a year or so before installing (For an 'Expired certificate' error). This is due to an old attached certificate

the error I get is 'Certificate Error please contact the application supplier' and I have always been told that I needed to sign it.
I just tried it with it set to all and the application installed perfectly, so I guess I will just have to make sure that what I am installing is good.
Thanks for the post it helped a lot
