Viewranger & GPS?

Hi all, I recently purchased Viewranger and it is great piece of software. I was wondering how does the GPS work with this when the slider is closed but with Nokia maps the slider needs to be open? I only found this out as I was testing Viewranger out and left it running by mistake and when I got home I noticed it had tracked my full route (and the phone was closed and in my pocket!)
Does anyone know why it works with one programme and not the other? Oh i also get a lock with Viewranger and in 3 secs max but Nokia maps takes ages.

Yeah, i'm not too sure about that. I have noticed with Nokia Maps that if you close the slider it pretty much loses the GPS lock, YET when i used SportsTracker on my pushie, i had the slider closed and phone in my pocket and it tracked me just fine. Its a mystery my friend.

In theory, all software that uses GPS should take the same time to lock. In reality, this is not the case. Ive noticed the difference in many bits of satnav software.

Navigon for me takes ages to lock, its like its not using AGPS. I cant figure out why this is, but I'll try a reinstall at some point.

The slider needs to be up because the GPS device is under it, for some strange reason.

Thats what I thought but it DOES work with the slider down with Viewranger!

There should be no difference.

Mine works in both Nokia Maps and Viewranger with the slider closed. I do notice it has a slight jitter if you open the slider, as if it is momentarily confused.
