I didn't think there was any memory card's for the 8gb version?

Its not compatible with the 8GB version, it says so on their site. You cannot buy Garmin thats not locked to memory card, thats the form of protection they use.

You cannot download Garmin, or transfer it from the memory card it comes on.

Im a fan of tom tom.... but ive been using nokia maps... and its pretty detailed!!

you can download google maps now to your phone
