Totally confused on how to run GPS and Maps on N95

I have a silver N95 with version 1.2.
Due to the bare instructions on the booklet that came with the phone I am totally confused on how to use the GPS and Maps funcations. But also on how to make the phone read the info that i on my sd card.

I have inserted a 4Gb sd card and formatted using a USB cable. I can see on the PC screen the folders that the N95 created following the formating and I have managed to transfer the Nokia city maps data into those folders. I can see the files and contents on the PC yet when I use the mobile on its own, disconnected from the PC, I cannot trace those files on the phone (via the file manager).
My GPS locks into position but when I open Maps I only get the world map picture and I zoom on nothing at all ! Also when I open Maps I got the message: network usage disabled , you can enable it from application settings. As I do not want to use the network (I have the maps loaded on the mobile, I thought!) I went into settings, general, position method and deselected both assisted and network based , but left "integrated GPS" thicked.
Still nothing !
I have tried to follow other tips sites but the menus and steps differ (some pictures of menus and files and steps to take do not correspond to those on my phone). This is all very very confusing ! Can someone please help?

(P.S. I cannot load the Nokia studio from the CD as I appear no to have a required windows file on my Windows XP.

How?

You need to use Nokia Maploader to load the maps if you don't want to have to download them on the go.

i have followed the steps from a symbian tips website that allows to download nikia maps without maploader...
i simply replaced the files formatted on the nokia with those the files etc downloaded from that website and which contain the data.

Instead of following those tips use Nokia Map loader and you would do just fine.

connect the N95 to your PC in PC suite mode and load the maps with Nokia Map loader.

also you should enable network based GPS because it gives you way better performance at a very small price.

No, your better of disabling that.

Assisted GPS is what you want.
