Probably a Symbian 'thang' in that case... To get a legit copy of TT for either my Vario I, or my SPV600, I would have been forced to buy a GPS receiver that I'd no use for... Paying around 200GBP for the program and a surplus reciever was NOT going to happen!

I know that you can get PDA/smartphone software only right now from TomTom directly. Not sure if they were separate products before, or if it's different based upon US/European market.
Either way, TomTom needs to hurry up with the N95 compatibility. There is no software that compares to it. I don't mind carrying a BT GPS- but I would like to be able to use TomTom if I don't bring my GPS with me.

The trick I used to buy Tomtom v6 for my N80 to use with my existing GPS receiver was to buy a Map upgrade as a download only - then you get the Tomtom v6 software downloaded by the Tomtom Home application. The license keys come with the maps you buy.

Maybe someone is clever enough to write a program that you run before tomtom to trick tomtom into searching "Other Bluetooth GPS receiver" and discovering the internal GPS if you get what i mean? you know, make the internal GPS appear in the bluetooth stack of the n95 as a bluetooth GPS receiver. probably the simple way if possible to solve this and other GPS software problems! i'm no programmer but maybe someone here could shed light on the possibility of this working? :-)

From V6, the PDA and smartphone versions were combined to be called TomTom Mobile.
I believe TT home can decide which files need installing by identifying the device type.
It was brought in due to inconsistencies with TT5 as some smartphones/symbian devices needed Mobile, where as others used the Navigator (PDA) version. It was even inconsistant on devices from the same manufacturer!
So for the download version, you'll get HOME bundled with it to work the install bit out. ;)

From what I remember, Tomtom home it didn't recognise my N80 and told me to put my mem card directly in my PC and then gave me a drop down list of supported devices to pick one from.

It is a complete fake. I have spoken to tomtom who have said that they have not developed anything yet but there will be a patch released on Monday from GPS midlands and this will solve the problem.

I'd be very interested to know where and how this info about GPSMidlands was obtained... Especially as they've been announcing the imminent arrival of this patch for weeks... Yet now there's no mention of it at all on their site.
